2009 Season opener: Blues vs. Detroit In Sweden
Are any of you guys going to be betting this game? I might risk a little on the Blues who have pretty much dominated their preseason (4-1-1; 5-1-1 if you count the Sweden team they played tuesday). Detroit has 6 players who are from Sweden (8 I believe on their roster) that will be playing Friday and Saturday. On the contrast, the Blues only have 1 in Berglund. Will that give the Blues an advantage at least in the first game having less nerves with not having as many players (especially star players) from their home country?

I'm a diehard Blues fan, so it's a tough call to bet on the Wings here on a national showcase.

    Thoughts?

Ill bet it, but this games on Friday.
    Blues should have good value.
Thursdays games are the season opener.

I'll edit that now. My brain is always in a funk after midnight.

I might throw down on the Blues. Det has been really stung by injuries to many of their top guys. Even though they're expected to make a return, there is definite value in taking the Blues in this game IMO. Blues are younger and may just be able to sneak a win here. Only thing worrying me is that the site is Sweden which is practically home ice for DET lol

Yeah, if I take anything it will be the Blues. Detroit line will be too high most likely. Blues have a good, young team to watch out for. Osgood will obviously not be in playoff form, I think STL will win a close game.

Yeah, I agree it's going to be a close game. The blues are going to be on their A game, Andy Murray has done amazing things for this team. I'm a diehard fan as well and I know they'll battle hard here in the season opener. I'm leaning toward a blues bet..i'm sure the wings will be wayy overpriced.

Go for the +1.5 PL at best. Playing in Sweden might give the wings a boost. Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Holmstrom, Kronwall, Johan Franzen = Swedes so there might be a ton of fan support for the Wings.

The Wings have several Swedes playing in their home country. Throw in a few Finns with family traveling from Finland and the Wings will have home advantage. I have not looked at the odds yet. This game will be close, and Osgood can inconsistent in net. I'm leaving this game alone (atleast until I see the odds).
