NHL is a business. It relies heavily on viewership. It already loses struggles with NFL/NBA/MLB
Viewership tanks when a Canadian team is in a Playoff series.

Winnipeg had no chance. an NHL team opens in Vegas. and Wins it all. in first year. it's like the NHL franchise was taken over by Marvel. and they made a movie. Canada is the villain of course. country that controlled hockey for decades. oppressor like red coats in American revolution.

Jets never a chance. USA will go nuts for hockey. big $$


just think about the name.. the "Golden Knights".. with a V for victory.. emblem.. and 'gold' as their official color. all happening in the first year of Trump. it's totally Marvel comics meets NHL meets USA

I disagree. Winnipeg (ironically which has lots of good American born players on the roster) is the first good team out of Canada since Vancouver was in the finals in 2011. If it wasn't for Tim Thomas, Vancouver would have the cup.

It is just that Calgary, Ottawa, Montreal, Edmonton & Toronto haven't really had quality teams in the last decade. It is so hard to win the Stanley cup and when you do simple math - 80% of the teams are American, the odds are lower for a Canadian team to win.

Ratzz, you have quite the talent for storylines. You made a post a few weeks ago with a storyine of how it would be Winnipeg vs Pittsburgh in the Finals this year, with Pittsburgh winning the 3-peat. That didn't work, so now you come up with this tale. It's fine by me, kinda interesting to explore different theories.

But on a serious note, don't you think Toronto will be playing for the Cup sometime in the next 4 years? I do.

- Auston Matthews to Toronto

Ive seen 3 times that canadian teams got the serious shaft in the playoffs from the refs: Quebec at the hands of the rangers, and Calgary twice (vs Anaheim and Tampa Bay). The 3 US teams went on to win the cup. Wayne Gretzky said it best: its a mickey mouse league.

The main 2 reasons for the lack of success in the modern era are the facts that the players don't want to live in Canada, and these Canadian teams are for the most part managed and coached by people who don't have a clue what it takes to win a championship. It's the blind leading the blind.
