The west coast Los Angeles Kings fly into Florida to take on the Panthers at the BB&T Centre. Both squads are on the outside of the playoffs looking in at the moment but neither of them are out of the playoff picture yet.

The Kings have been fighting their way through the 2017 season ever since their starting goaltender Jonathan Quick went down. Even for a team with a recently postseason pedigree, losing your #1 is the biggest challenge a team can face. However, journeyman Peter Budaj has done a fine job with a 25-16-3 record and a 2.09 goals against average; that has given the Kings hope for the postseason.
The Kings are one point behind behind the St. Louis Blues and the Calgary Flames in the Wild Card, and have not been playing like a team that is fighting for their lives. They are 5-5 in their last 10 but they are coming off back-to-back losses of 5-0. On the road they are 12-15-3
Panthers on the prowl
The Panthers should be well rested heading into tonight’s games. This season, every team gets a bye week and the Panthers are coming off theirs, having won their last game in Anaheim nearly a week ago.
The Panthers have won three games in a row and are 5-3-2 in their last 10 and are finally healthy. They have welcomed back Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau in the past week which is as big an upgrade as any potential trade deadline deal. At home this season, the Panthers are 14-9-3 and have won four in a row at home.
The Final Breakdown
The Kings are 13-3 in their last 16 against the Panthers, 5-2 when playing in Florida... Riding that trend. The fact that the Kings have dropped 2 straight and the Panthers have won 3, has me thinking both teams end that streak tonight.
