    Crosby Out for 8+ weeks
Feel terrible for Sid in this situation.... Poor guy.

So strange how this happens on the first game Iginla comes out after "wanting a chance to play with Crosby".

Regardless of what happens to the Penguins this season, its just so sad to see him go down on a play like that. A broken jaw is no joke especially with his prior head injuries. Even is your a huge Crosby hater (almost like Lebrons hate it seems), this has the potential to permanently impact his career. I don't even see him coming back until 10-12 weeks at least. He won't be able to eat solid food and will drop weight like crazy, plus I'm sure having multiple root canals from the impact on his teeth won't help with eating either.

He really is a living/playing legend, and I hope this won't change that...

I think that info is a little far-fetched buddy. I haven't heard anything close to that. Worse case scenario he is out till start of playoffs. Other players have played with a broken jaw before in the NHL. They make a jaw protector add-on to the helmet, it looks goofy but I've seen a few players wear them after breaking there jaws. It does suck though that the Pens won't get a chance to get everyone playing together on the same page before the playoffs start. Counting on Malkin can be hit or miss, when he decides he wants to play he can absolutely take over a game by himself but he can also be lazy sometimes and just loaf around. Hopefully he'll step up his game. Finding out he has no concussion like symptoms/side effects from the incident was the biggest news, in my opinion.

He is in great health and they will know a better time table towards the end of the week. But the likelihood of him being out 10-12 weeks or even 8 weeks isn't likely. You don't have to eat solid food to stop from losing weight. When I was in high school a teammate was hit in the face with a line drive to 3rd base, he broke his jaw and had to have it wired shut, all he did was liquefy everything he ate. When he ate chicken his mom added chicken broth and when he ate beef she added beef broth. It doesn't look all that appealing, however, I tried what he was drinking a few times and it tasted the same as solid versions of the food. Believe it or not they actually have cook books for people with broke jaws. That was what she got all of her recipes out of.

I'm hoping for the best man but if you think 8 weeks isn't likely than you don't know what your talking about. Im guessing extra time and why..? did you forget that this is their franchise player for LIFE. They are not going to rush him at all to return, were you not paying attention to the last 2 years?? Yes, Crosby is tough (not the toughest), but he's not a moron either and this is a pretty significant injury. Comparing a grown man to a kid from your high school is not even relevant, the only point that you brought up (they can blend up food?) He will lose weight, and not be in shape by the time this whole thing is over with. So even if his jaw is better in 6, he will take his time getting back to the ice IMO.

All in all I wish him the best of luck and a great recovery.. (Along with Ware from Lville today, that was brutal)

If only you had 100 points to bet

I'd bet all 1143 of these stupid points that it takes 8 weeks + but honestly don't care to bet against something I would like to see happen... Yes, I'd love for him to be back sooner but I just don't think thats the case. I have a Pens future to win the Cup at +700 that is basically done for without the return of 87. I like the entire Pittsburg squad, and wouldn't count them completely out, but without Crosby its just not the same team...

I wasn't comparing him to a kid. I was simply just explaining that if a kid and his mom can get around the nutritional aspects of a broken jaw then, to put it in layman's terms since you couldn't comprehend where I was going with that statement, the Penguin's organization can probably handle this situation. This isn't there first rodeo. Something tells me a HOCKEY organization has dealt with severe injuries prior to this one and, this is just a hunch, but they probably already have a plan in place. Look man, all I was trying to tell you at the time was it's not time for DOOM and GLOOM. At the end of the week after his press conference if they announce he's shutdown, then, by all means, DOOM and GLOOM the hell out of it. Whatever floats your boat man.

Yes a broken jaw is a significant injury, but depending on where it is broken will depend on how serious it would be to play with the injury. I haven't found one reputable site that mentions anything close to your panic filled initial comments. I personally think all this is a bit premature. Later this week they are going to give a press conference. I think they will answer the majority of the questions then. They will probably release his eta for getting back on the ice then. A article from the Pitt Tribune by Rob Rossi, Pens beat writer, mentions back by start of playoffs. He's normally pretty accurate. Take radio for what its worth but that is what they have been saying on local radio too.

KEEP IN MIND, his JAW was NOT WIRED SHUT. It has been widely reported now that his surgery did not require them to wire his jaw shut.

                      .

LOL. Zandy. Good luck with that. After the past two playoff cycles I don't see him giving up the playoffs easily. If it was concussion related I would get it completely but they said he was symptom free so no chance in hell he doesn't get on the ice, not with everything they have going for them right now.
