What effect will RUST have this season? Bruins looked awful in scrimmage vs. AHL team
Bruins lost 7-5 to providence bruins (AHL). They looked terrible. Yes its just a scrimmage. But its against a minor league team. Rask looked awful in net. Bruins looked very sloppy. They didn't look like an NHL team. They looked like a high school team out there. Maybe im making too much of it? But with only 1week of training camp and no preseason, i've got to assume this will spill over into the regular season. I was counting on the Bruins being a contender this season. I was getting ready to fire a couple hundred on them to win it all at 12/1. Then I saw how rusty they looked and now i'm cautious.

I want some of the hockey buffs here to analyze the effect of rust due to the extended offseason/shortened training camp/preseason. How long will the rust spill into the regular season? which teams will be most affected? least affected? What will it do to various teams' playoff chances? When will teams be back to 100% like they were playing in towards the end of last season? And what's the best way to profit from it?

I wouldn't read too much into this. The Bruins are a veteran squad and they haven't seen much turnover of their roster. They'll be ready to go Saturday. Same coach, same system, same players. I hope they aren't fine as I'm a Sabres fan but my money says they will be. The Bruins dominate the northeast. In the last 3 years the Bruins are 49-17-6 (19-4-1 last year) against the northeast division. That's a 68% win percentage. In a regular 82 game schedule division games make up 29% of the schedule. In this 48 game schedule divisional games make up 37.5% of the schedule.

yea but normally they have a month of training camp/preseason. I don't think the bruins are going to beat anybody if they play as awful as they did last night. its just a scrimmage though. maybe im reading into it too much. maybe they can do a complete 180 in 3 days? who knows. maybe it was just 1 rusty game. maybe all the other teams will be equally rusty. who knows. hopefully they can do a complete 180 in the next couple weeks. maybe im reading into it too much. but i really didnt like what i saw. they looked like garbage last night.
