I downloaded the event files (play by play) from Retro Sheet and noticed there are a lot of games missing in a given season. Am I doing something wrong or do they not have a complete database?

A lot. I will download a team's season and there will be weeks missing. I must be doing something wrong, but can't figure out what.Comment -
If you're looking in a team file (2011ATL.EVN, for instance), those files only contain data for that team's home games. The data for all of Atlanta's road games will be spread across the team files for all the teams they played on the road. I'm guessing the weeks you're missing are extended road trips.Comment -
