CBB Point Buying?

A couple of handicappers I deal with believe that buying 3 points at -170 in cbb on certain numbers is a +ev play. Anyone else using this or have any opinions on this matter, thx

I think this is good at any range that does not cross the Pick (or an adjacent "1").

Would one use the half point calculator to find if there is an edge? Obviously one can't just buy 3 points on any line blind and expect to profit...

And fact that a lot of books charge more than -170 to but 3 points, or worse yet only allow buying up to 2 points in CBB, are both hints that 3 points at -170 could be +EV.

I would say yes if calculator was updated recently, which it was not. I would still say probably. Normally I'd say just use Pinny dropdown, but they are one of the books that cuts off buying at 2.

So you're saying buying 3 points is profitable in cbb no matter what the number is? I find that hard to believe..

ok so -170 is supposed to win at a gd rate just look at todays results if u had the loser against the spread and bought +3 in every game u woulda gotten destroyed

Disregard double-digit spreads.

so whats the criteria? low total under 130 and spread btween 1-9?

there are 5 point spread moves right now these lines r not efficent.

maybe closer to march madness or something.

or whoever wants just buy 2 at pinny, alternative pointspeads at eurobooks bet 365.

Considering how many books let you buy 3 points for -170 in 2005 and how many let you buy 3 points for -170 now, it's probably not a good idea to post this stuff on a forum. I don't know why people don't learn that posting about CPs and point buying is a bad idea.

Have you figured out yet if Hilton is part of Cantor?

So maybe sticking with single digit spreads and using the half point calculator is the way to go about it...and then maybe take the games where one has a minimum of a 1.5% edge?? Obviously basing the numbers entered in off of pinny....what do you think?

Yes but make sure to analyze 1/2 point at a time. I know the screen has a 2-point radius, but it is less accurate the further you get from the original number.

I had many outs that offered the point buy in 2005, I have none now, aside from a D- book that pays about as slowly as WSEX. I think I could do those point buys at VIP, BetTrojan, Legendz (might be confusing Legendz with the 15c buy on the NFL 3, which they definitely had), Bet365, Majorbetting, Sportsbook.com, Players Only, and Sportingbet. I think I had other accounts that offered it that were bought by Sportsbook.com. I also had plenty of pay per heads that offered it. Greek had some pretty generous point buying rules, I believe 2.5 points to -160, and they gave me some sort of warning about making too many point buys.

I don't understand the crack about the Hilton. The Hilton has been an independent sportsbook for most of the time I've bet sports in Vegas, although I think they were affiliated with Park Place when I was starting out. The last book I heard Cantor was taking over was the Palms. If they are taking over the Hilton that's news to me. I certainly do not claim to be a Las Vegas expert. I bet there pretty regularly between 2004-2009 but not as much the last few years.
