A couple of handicappers I deal with believe that buying 3 points at -170 in cbb on certain numbers is a +ev play. Anyone else using this or have any opinions on this matter, thx

#3Just pure guessing, maybe it has some value if it is a game between two high ranked teams, like the one between Kentucky and North Carolina.Comment -

#9And also, why would buying 3 points in cbb be any better than buying 3 points in nba?Comment -

#11And fact that a lot of books charge more than -170 to but 3 points, or worse yet only allow buying up to 2 points in CBB, are both hints that 3 points at -170 could be +EV.Comment -

#12Originally posted by jolmscheidWould one use the half point calculator to find if there is an edge? Obviously one can't just buy 3 points on any line blind and expect to profit...Comment -

#13Originally posted by LT ProfitsI would say yes if calculator was updated recently, which it was not. I would still say probably. Normally I'd say just use Pinny dropdown, but they are one of the books that cuts off buying at 2.Comment -

#14Originally posted by jolmscheidSo you're saying buying 3 points is profitable in cbb no matter what the number is? I find that hard to believe..My "probably" was in response to your question about using half-point calculator.

#17And even with single-digit spreads, you can't buy 3 every game.Comment -

#18so whats the criteria? low total under 130 and spread btween 1-9?
there are 5 point spread moves right now these lines r not efficent.
maybe closer to march madness or something.
or whoever wants just buy 2 at pinny, alternative pointspeads at eurobooks bet 365.
and gd luckComment -

#20Considering how many books let you buy 3 points for -170 in 2005 and how many let you buy 3 points for -170 now, it's probably not a good idea to post this stuff on a forum. I don't know why people don't learn that posting about CPs and point buying is a bad idea.Comment -

#21Groovin, can you tell us which books let you buy the 3 for 10c in 2004? Your insight is fascinating.
Have you figured out yet if Hilton is part of Cantor?Comment -

#23Originally posted by jolmscheidSo maybe sticking with single digit spreads and using the half point calculator is the way to go about it...and then maybe take the games where one has a minimum of a 1.5% edge?? Obviously basing the numbers entered in off of pinny....what do you think?Comment -

I don't understand the crack about the Hilton. The Hilton has been an independent sportsbook for most of the time I've bet sports in Vegas, although I think they were affiliated with Park Place when I was starting out. The last book I heard Cantor was taking over was the Palms. If they are taking over the Hilton that's news to me. I certainly do not claim to be a Las Vegas expert. I bet there pretty regularly between 2004-2009 but not as much the last few years.Comment
