I'm obviously a newbie, but does anyone know where to get a good simulator without having to program one myself?

#7For it to have any value at all, you need to program it yourself. Building one isn't that difficult, however it does take time and you need to be meticulous about using good data and accounting for all the important factors.Originally posted by riffraff24I do do my own homework. #9The problem is you said "good" simulator. Those are, by definition, privately held (because if they were public, even if they had been good for beating the line, they wouldn't be good for that any more; and if they'd been good to begin with, the makers would never have gone public with them).Originally posted by riffraff24I'm obviously a newbie, but does anyone know where to get a good simulator without having to program one myself?
Teamrankings and accuscore are public, available at ESPN and at their sites.Comment -

#13And shouldn't be joking, Madden is fine. I would have included it but it's projections aren't available on the net, are they? But they are anyone's equal.Originally posted by WrecktangleMadden...

#16Unfortunately that's what you get from a very vocal minority in the "think tank". Just ignore the "Living in Mon's Basement Gang" and eventually you'll get thoughtful, respectful answers. I thought it was a reasonable question.Originally posted by riffraff24I do do my own homework. I was just looking for some extra tools. #17Now *thats* a good one! I think you have to be at least 40 to appreciate how just how funny that is! I remember meticulously planning a play, positioning all the little Heisman-shaped plastic dudes to open up holes in the defense for another little Heisman to run through. Then you flick the switch, and all hell breaks loose! Like every player on both teams simultaneously getting tazed! A few of the guys tip over, a few more shimmy to the sidelines, and the rest go round in circles, the whole thing accompanied by a loud metallic whine. And God help you if you tried a pass! Ever tried throwing a tiny felt football accurately with a 1-inch tall plastic quarterback? Ah those were the days!Originally posted by TomG

#19Riffraff I build one a few years ago for NBA then as the season went on I did regression anaylsys and kept tweaking the formulas based on what was actually coming in. It took way too much time it once had an 11/11 night betting totals and once picked a big underdog to win outright but overall it was just slightly better than throwing darts. The stupid site I got my feeds from changed a format and I never got it going again. It was a fun project and one I hope to take up again but I don't have that kind of free time anymore.Comment -

#21To add to this, models/simulators break down and your first one (most likely first few) will fail miserably. But it's a learning process.Originally posted by riffraff24Thanks Pokerjoe and suicidekings for your grown up responses.Comment -

#24Accuscore uses a simulator for handicapping sports. I doubt they would give you the one they use, even for a large price, but they may provide some help on finding a reatail simulator, or things to look for in ones that are marketed, if you can find any.
