    If someone could help me with these...
    These have nothing to do with GAMBLING...but im dead if I dont get these down and I cant figure the fuks out to save my life...any help would be great.

    1. Solve the Radical equation...

    Square root of x+2 = 1+ square root of x-5

    2. Simplfy the expression without leaving any roots on the bottom.

    5
    ____
    (square root of 13) -3

    * you have to multiply top and bottom by the conjugate of (square root of 13)-3

    I would make them look nice like ganch but I dont know how. Thanks to anyone that can help me out.

    One thing I always learned in my stats courses was that about half the answers are either "1" or "0"

      So how have you tried solving these two problems?

        Ganch, thats the point...I cant...I try multiplying this and that and nothing seems to be adding up right....if you could help me out with these I swear I will never ask you for anything ever again...

          Be more specific about what you've tried.

          In the first problem, what happened when you squared each side of the equation?

          In the second problem, what happened when you multiplied numerator and denominator by (sqrt(13)+3)?

            ganch,

            1 problem I get x+2= 2+ 2sqrt of x-5) + ? I cant multiple sqrt times each other.

            2. I get 15 sqrt of 13 on top then on bottm I get 169 - 3(sqrt 13)...which puts me back in the same boat as before...

              You're not correctly cross multiplying.

              Remember:
              (a+b) * (c+d) = ac + ad + bc + bd

              So with:
              sqrt(x+2) = 1 + sqrt(x-5)
              If you square both sides:
              (x+2) = 1 + 2*sqrt(x-5) + (x-5)

              You should be able to take it from there.

                so subtract x-4 from both sides and you get -2=2*sqrt(x-5) ... is that correct? Then I would have to square both sides again?

                Also, what about problem 2? I get 15 sqrt of 13 on top then on bottm I get 169 - 3(sqrt 13)...which puts me back in the same boat as before...

                  No, if you subtract (x-4) from both sides you get:
                  (x+2) - (x-4) = 1 + 2*sqrt(x-5) + (x-5) - (x-4)
                  6 = 2*sqrt(x-5)

                  No, you're not cross-multiplying correctly. Try doing it again carefully.

                  Numerator = 5 * (sqrt(13)+3)
                  Denominator = (sqrt(13)-3) * (sqrt(13)+3)

                      No.
                      6 = 2*sqrt(x-5)
                      62 = (2*sqrt(x-5))2
                      36 = 4 * (x-5)
                      9 = x-5
                      x = 14

                      It just equals 5 * (sqrt(13)+3). Remember -- you only need to remove the radical from the denominator, not the numerator.

                      I'm not sure how you got 13-3, but it's incorrect.
                      Denominator = (sqrt(13)-3) * (sqrt(13)+3)
                      = (sqrt(13) * sqrt(13) + 3*sqrt(13) - 3*sqrt(13) - 9)
                      = 13 - 9 = 4

                      So the answer would be:
                      5 4 *(sqrt(13) + 3)

                      (As an aside, and with all due respect, if you have any desire to continue your education in math or the sciences, or if you ever want to get serious about sports betting, I'd have to suggest taking some time to brush up on your elementary algebra.)

                        Well thank you...

                        As a side note, I am not bad at Math, just have not dealt with Radicals in a long time. Once I got passed these I wont have to deal with them again. To put it mildly, Radicals have never been my friend anyway.
