    +ev -ev plays?
Hey guys so I always hear these terms being thrown around. how do you calculate if a play is either of these two and what does it mean. I know +ev plays are better but I'm still not sure. I'm trying to get into more advanced ways at betting then just capping and thinking that one team is better than another so they should win, as that has kept me mostly breaking even my whole life. If anyone has a guide on all this stuff that would be great. Thanks.

I think youre wondering what a +110 means and a -110 means. If you are betting for which team will win (a moneyline bet) instead of the point spread, there will be a -# and a +#.

The underdog will be + money and the favorite will be - money. Put down 100 to win the + amount, lay the - amount to win 100.

    Hope this helps.

EV = Expected Value. +EV plays are plays that expect to show a profit if bet over and over. -EV plays are plays that should lose money in the long run and should be avoided.

As for how to find +EV, it's different strokes for different folks.

(% of expected win x amount of win) + (% of expected loss x amount of loss) etc. etc. etc.

          (.60 x 100) + (.40 x -110) = 60 + -44 = +$16 EV

EV is the return you can expect to receive over an extended period of time ( the long run) based upon the probabilities of varying outcomes.
Do you play poker ?? It is not unlike "pot odds." You might want to read a bit on probability theory...
I find that understanding standard deviation to be a great help when it comes to gambling also.
Just google "expectation theory" , "probability theory", and "standard deviation'. Ton of info out there.
