Simply put, which is better value:

    +13.5 at -105 or +14 at -115

Is the half point worth ten cents?

    What sport? Semi-important detail missing.

There are some half-point calcs, such as SBR's but they aren't entirely accurate.

It's usually safe to say that if a book lets you buy points at a given price, it usually isn't to your advantage.

Well, more of a case of I have three places to play. Two are showing 13.5 at -105 while Bovada, as usual, is shaded towards the dog. It just got me to thinking about how much a half-point is worth on the lesser numbers like 10, 14, 17, 21, etc.

Personally - and unless you have some other math that I'd love to hear - I find it is only smart to buy into a push on the three, never off of it.

Couldn't tell from your post if I was responding to a typical SBR poster or someone with a bit of a clue. Obviously you have a bit of a clue.

If you search hard enough, you can probably find/create NFL push charts, which is really the only way to know.

Oh, thanks for that. What's funny about this fair price chart is that you generally get a "fair price" for coming on/off the three (20 cents) but, if you look at all of the other numbers, books mark up the hell out of it. In my example, I shouldn't pay more than 5.7 cents but I was deciding between ten cents.

It's the sportsbook version of a loss leader! "Here, enjoy market price on the three but we're going to gauge you on every other number available and you won't even notice." lol
