Giants WR Odell Beckham left tonight's preseason game after taking a hard hit to his left knee. Both his knee and ankle flexed slightly sideways from the hit:

    https://twitter.com/CharlesRobinson/status/8997972...

It's still early, but our Dr. Jene Bramel has the following analysis on Beckham's injury: The hit to the outside of Beckham's left knee is complicated. The mechanism of injury on video puts him at risk of both a high ankle sprain and an MCL sprain. Beckham's foot was only briefly planted on the turf, which likely spared him a high grade knee injury. And the Giants immediately reported an ankle injury.

Expect Beckham to have an x-ray tonight to rule out fracture, which is possible with higher grade high ankle injuries. He'll also likely have an MRI tomorrow to further grade the injury.

Best case scenario is Beckham returning to limited practices and being available in Week 1. That's possible here and it was good to see Beckham return to the sideline later. A longer absence (3-4+ weeks) is also possible should imaging show a higher grade injury.

Initial x-rays of Beckham's knee have been taken and the Giants are reporting that they are negative. They're calling the injury an ankle sprain:
    https://twitter.com/JordanRaanan/status/8998119448...

Dr. Jene says the next day or two will be crucial for Beckham:
Swelling and stiffness can often increase overnight after even low grade high ankle sprains. So the next 24-48 hours are key for Beckham. Reports so far are trending positively and Beckham has nearly three weeks to recover for Week 1. His MRI and re-evaluation Tuesday are critical.

Stay tuned, folks -- we'll be watching this one closely for you.
    Peace,
    Joe

    Wednesday Update

IND - Still no timeline for QB Andrew Luck

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Stephen Holder

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (shoulder) remains without a timetable for his return as of Tuesday, Aug. 22. It will be telling if Luck does not practice next week, in the opinion of The Indianapolis Star's Stephen Holder.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's difficult for fantasy owners to trust this situation. If Luck is healthy, then he's a top-5 fantasy QB. With concern about his shoulder growing, Luck's fantasy value has been falling. You can get him at QB8 (8.03) now (on average) in 12-team PPR leagues.

NYG - Odell Beckham suggests he'll be ready

    Source: Giants.com

Updating previous reports, New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (ankle) suggested he'll be ready for Week 1 after the preseason game Monday, Aug. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners got quite a scare on Monday night. Beckham was rocked with a low hit that sent him to the ground crumpled. Keep track of his status as the season draws near, but this ankle injury doesn't appear to be something that would keep him out of the lineup in Week 1 of the regular season.

HOU - QB Tom Savage to begin season as starter

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage has enjoyed 'a good camp' and will begin the season as the starting quarterback, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tracking this quarterback battle, that seemed to be the way things were trending. This doesn't mean Savage is locked in for the rest of the year. In fact, we imagine he's got a short hook if he struggles much in games. Rookie Deshaun Watson is the future of the Texans at the position, and they should keep grooming him to be the eventual starter.

DET - WR Kenny Golladay pushing for starting spot

    Source: MLive.com - Kyle Meinke

Detroit Lions WR Kenny Golladay has shown signs that it won't be long before he cracks the starting lineup. At 6-foot-4, he's a better fit for the outside, which could shift WR Golden Tate to the slot.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Golladay has looked fantastic during camp and the preseason. He's shown signs of being reliable as a receiver and more than just a 'circus catch' guy. We love his dynasty stock, but in deeper redraft leagues you can take him as a 'lottery ticket' pick late in your draft if you want.

CAR - QB Cam Newton will play this week

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) is expected to take the field for the first time this preseason Thursday, Aug. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Week three of the preseason is the dress rehearsal for the regular season. With Newton playing, it's a clear sign that he's on track to be ready for their Week 1 matchup against the 49ers.

PHI - RB LeGarrette Blount having weight issues

    Source: NJ.com - Matt Lombardo

Philadelphia Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount has been having 'weight issues' and looked 'disappointing in practice,' which is why it's possible he might not make the final roster.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Blount was supposed to be the battering ram for the Eagles offense, but there has been speculation that he won't even make the 53-man roster. Eagles coach Doug Pederson insists that Blount will be a big part of the offense, so for now it looks like his roster spot and starting job are safe despite reports/indications to the contrary.

NYJ - WR Quincy Enunwa's surgery goes well

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

New York Jets WR Quincy Enunwa (back) underwent a successful surgery Tuesday, Aug. 22, to repair the bulging disk in his back. He will not play in 2017, but still plans to be around the team and in the community.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
A sixth-round pick in 2014, Enunwa is set to be a free agent in 2018. This injury will certainly hold back any contract offer Enunwa would get from the Jets...or any other team.

BUF - RB LeSean McCoy not being shopped

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy is not on the trading block as has been widely speculated of late, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Bills traded away WR Sammy Watkins as he wasn't in their plans for the future. McCoy is going to be the centerpiece of the Bills offense and is a perfect fit for the zone-blocking system implemented by new OC Rick Dennison. Take him as a top-5 pick in your fantasy draft in any format.

NE - RB Mike Gillislee full go in practice

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee (hamstring) was a full participant in practice Tuesday, Aug. 22, after being limited the last two weeks.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gillislee needs to get back out there, stay healthy, and produce. He's in line to be the lead back for the Patriots when they go to the ground, but this injury has opened the door for a guy like Rex Burkhead to win that spot.

GB - RB Ty Montgomery back at practice

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tom Silverstein

Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery (leg) returned to practice Tuesday, Aug. 22, after being sidelined last week with a lower leg injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Montgomery's injury opened the door for rookie Jamaal Williams to get first-team reps. Williams will push Montgomery for snaps, but fantasy owners are trusting the converted WR as the lead back for now. Montgomery has a current ADP of RB17 (4.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

NYG - WR Brandon Marshall good to go

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
New York Giants WR Brandon Marshall (shoulder) is fine after injuring his shoulder against the Cleveland Browns Monday, Aug. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It was one of the scares Giants fans (and fantasy owners) had from the Monday night game. Looks like Marshall is good to go, and the team also got good news on Odell Beckham Jr.'s ankle. With these two healthy (ish), it reflects positively on Eli Manning's potential in 2017.

NYJ - RB Matt Forte works with team Tuesday

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) participated in team drills Tuesday, Aug. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Forte missed the team's last preseason game, and his status for Week 1 of the regular season was in question according to head coach Todd Bowles. He'll test out that hamstring in drills but it's still no guarantee that Forte will be ready for action - either now or at the start of the regular season.

ATL - WR Julio Jones might play Saturday

Source: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - D. Orlando Ledbetter

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (foot) could see the field against the Arizona Cardinals Saturday, Aug. 26, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Falcons are not rushing Jones back after offseason foot surgery. He's missed the first two preseason games, but Jones might be out there for the dress rehearsal week three game. No matter if he plays of not, Jones should be ready to go in Week 1 of the regular season.

DAL - TE Rico Gathers out for this week

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Brandon George

Dallas Cowboys TE Rico Gathers (concussion) will not play in Week 3 of the preseason as he remains in the concussion protocol.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gathers had been making plays and scoring touchdowns in the preseason before this concussion. The basketball-to-football TE is a dynasty prospect we've been monitoring for quite some time.

ATL - RB Devonta Freeman almost ready

Source: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - D. Orlando Ledbetter

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) is in the final stages of the concussion protocol, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Good news for the Falcons and fantasy owners here. Freeman may not play in week three of the preseason but it looks like he'll be ready for the start of the regular season.

CIN - WR Tyler Boyd the real No. 2 in Cincinnati?

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Paul Dehner Jr.

Cincinnati Bengals WR Brandon LaFell will be the 'official No. 2' to start the season, but WR Tyler Boyd could end up being the second-most productive wide receiver on the team, according to Cincinnati Enquirer's Paul Dehner Jr.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Keep an eye on this, especially if you're in a deeper redraft league. Boyd could be a late-round 'lottery ticket' pick who could pay off if he's the Bengals no2 WR opposite A.J. Green.

NE - No depth chart at RB in New England

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots RBs Mike Gillislee, Rex Burkhead, James White and Dion Lewis form a 'deep, talented group' and any one of the four could be featured at any given time, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Oh that tricky Bill Belichick. It's true, any of these Patriots RBs could be the featured back given the one-off gameplans the team uses on a weekly basis. That makes things problematic for fantasy owners trying to navigate this situation. Gillislee is banged up with a hamstring problem and Burkhead has been looking fantastic in the preseason. White is also there to make plays as a runner/receiver. You can get White and Burkhead in the 10th and 12th rounds respectively right now in 12-team PPR leagues.

MIA - RB Kenyan Drake out of protocol

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake (concussion) is out of the concussion protocol Tuesday, Aug. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He was practicing on Monday, so it was easy to see he was going to be out of the protocol. Both Drake and starter Jay Ajayi have been been in the concussion protocol during the preseason...just something to remember for fantasy owners. Ajayi is a RB1 for fantasy with a current ADP of RB8 (2.03) in 12-team PPR leagues. He's an intriguing prospect this year because around half his rushing yards last year came in three games (all 200-yard games). We'll see if Ajayi can be more consistent this year. Drake is not handcuff worthy for Ajayi owners as the team would use a RBBC if the starter went down.

DET - WR Golden Tate could shift to slot

    Source: MLive.com - Kyle Meinke

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate could play more in the slot with WR Kenny Golladay potentially ready for a starting spot outside.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With three straight seasons of 90-plus catches, we could see Tate staying at that level even if he shifts inside the formation. Golladay is an exciting rookie receiver, and the third-round pick out of Northern Illinois has turned heads. However, Tate is a reliable and trusted target for Matthew Stafford who should get plenty of targets each game.

NYG - QB Eli Manning sharp in preseason action

    Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports

New York Giants QB Eli Manning completed 10-of-14 passes for 80 yards in the team's second preseason game Monday, August 21, opposite the Cleveland Browns.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Eli Manning is a high-end QB2 for fantasy but there will be owners out there who get him as a starter and then rotate him based on matchups. You can wait on quarterback if you'd like, and Manning is coming off the board in the 11th round of 12-team drafts. We'd suggest getting Ben Roethlisberger or Jameis Winston a couple of rounds earlier, but if you've filled up with other positions then Manning is an option.

CLE - QB Cody Kessler efficient in preseason win

    Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports

Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler was a perfect 7-for-7 on his pass attempts for 60 yards in the team's second preseason contest Monday, August 21, against the New York Giants. He also rushed two times for six yards.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Kessler is trying to win the starting job over Brock Osweiler and rookie DeShone Kizer. This performance will aid him in that quest. The team knows what they have in Kessler, and that's an efficient quarterback who will try to move the chains with mostly shorter passes.

CLE - QB Brock Osweiler unimpressive again

    Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports

Cleveland Browns QB Brock Osweiler completed 6-of-8 passes for 25 yards and also threw an interception Monday, August 21, opposite the New York Giants.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Osweiler is fighting Cody Kessler and rookie DeShone Kizer for the starting spot. The interception was tipped at the line (a problem for Osweiler) and he was generally unimpressive. The Browns could name a starter sometime this week.

CLE - QB DeShone Kizer solid in second game

    Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports

Cleveland Browns QB DeShone Kizer completed 8-of-13 pass attempts for 74 yards, while also rushing five times for 35 yards in the team's second preseason game Monday, August 21, versus the New York Giants.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The rookie is on the right track, but he still has a ways to go. Kizer has a bad habit of holding onto the ball too long and he'll stare down his targets constantly leading defenders right to his receivers.

TEN - WR Corey Davis will not be rushed back

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans WR Corey Davis (hamstring) did not participate in practice Monday, Aug. 21.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The first WR off the board in the draft this year, Davis has great upside in the pros. The team is excited about his future, but there's no need to rush him back. Davis will not be hurried back to the field because the team wants him to be ready for the start of the regular season, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.

    Thursday Update

CLE - QB DeShone Kizer in line to start Week 1

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB DeShone Kizer has not been named as the starting quarterback for Week 1, but head coach Hue Jackson said things are trending in that direction. Jackson said Kizer would have to really struggle in the third preseason game for him to change his mind.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Apparently, the Browns have as much confidence in Brock Osweiler as everyone else does...

JAX - QB Chad Henne to start Thursday

    Source: Jaguars.com - John Oehser

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Chad Henne will be the starting quarterback for the preseason game against the Carolina Panthers Thursday, Aug. 24. QB Blake Bortles is also expected to receive some playing time with the first-team offense during the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Henne is competing with Bortles for the starting job. No matter who wins, there's not a lot of fantasy value to be mined from either player. The Jaguars want to run the ball more this year, but they need rookie (and potential superstar) RB Leonard Fournette to be healthy.

CLE - QB Brock Osweiler to be traded again?

    Source: ESPN.com - Pat McManamon

Cleveland Browns QB Brock Osweiler is once again the subject of trade rumors, according to a source. QB DeShone Kizer will start in Cleveland's third preseason game, while Osweiler is not expected to play.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This was the thought process when the Browns picked up Osweiler in a trade that looked more at home in the NBA. Osweiler has had a bad preseason, while Kizer is their quarterback of the future - potentially. The team can always go with Cody Kessler until Kizer is ready.

PIT - WR Martavis Bryant has hamstring issue

Source: NFL Network - Aditi Kinkhabwala

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant (hamstring) was seen with his hamstring wrapped, but head coach Mike Tomlin said Bryant is only considered day-to-day and expects him to practice Thursday, Aug. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Day-to-day indicates the injury is not that serious. Bryant is coming back from a year off football due to suspension, so this type of nagging injury isn't really a surprise. The team will monitor him closely and get him ready for Week 1. Bryant is WR23 (4.11) in 12-team PPR leagues right now.

DEN - RB Devontae Booker aims for Week 3 return

Source: The Denver Post - Troy E. Renck

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker (wrist) returned to practice Wednesday, Aug. 23. He is hoping to be back in action by Week 3 of the regular season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Booker is coming back to a somewhat crowded backfield. C.J. Anderson is the starter and behind him we could see Jamaal Charles or rookie DeAngelo Henderson mixed in as the change-of-pace back. Unless Anderson gets banged up (again), we don't see much of a role for Booker.

NYG - Odell Beckham in jeopardy for season opener?

    Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (ankle) could potentially miss the team's regular-season opener against the Dallas Cowboys with the ankle injury he suffered in a preseason game against the Cleveland Browns on Monday, Aug. 22, according to multiple sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This injury was initially considered minor, and now reports have him potentially missing the season opener. Obviously, every fantasy owner is going to be monitoring this closely but we're still not moving him down the draft board. Even worst case scenario he only misses a couple of games, so Beckham stays at WR2 (1.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

CHI - QB Mitchell Trubisky sees time with starters

    Source: ESPNChicago.com - Jeff Dickerson

Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky received some snaps with the first-team offense during practice Wednesday, Aug. 23. QB Mike Glennon will start the third preseason game, but Trubisky is expected to play at least one series with the starters at the start of the second half.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Glennon is the starter for now, but Trubisky is the future of the Bears. We may see Glennon only get half the year (or less) as the starter before they move to their 2017 first-round pick.

JAX - WR Allen Hurns on the block?

    Source: The Florida Times-Union - Ryan O'Halloran

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Hurns could be on the trade block, in the opinion of beat writer Ryan O'Halloran.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Hurns just signed a five-year, $40 million deal last year. It might be tough to find a trade partner, and get anything of value for Hurns, based on his contract and poor performance last year. The Jaguars have Marqise Lee and rookie Dede Westbrook behind Hurns, and they could easily be moved up the depth chart if need be.

BAL - RB Danny Woodhead has hamstring injury

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Updating previous reports, Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (hamstring) is dealing with a hamstring injury that could end his preseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Woodhead is a seasoned veteran who doesn't need a ton of reps in the preseason. The team needs weapons on offense, and Woodhead could catch 65 passes (or more) for the Ravens in 2017. In PPR leagues, Woodhead has flex appeal and could perform as a RB2 on some weeks.

ATL - RB Devonta Freeman to miss preseason game

    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com - Kelsey Conway

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) has been ruled out for the preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals Saturday, Aug. 26, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

BAL - WR Breshad Perriman continues to miss practice

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens WR Breshad Perriman (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 23, and is not expected to play in the preseason game against the Buffalo Bills Saturday, Aug. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's always something with Perriman. He's always had an intriguing size/speed combination but Perriman's pro career has been set back by injury.

NYJ - RB Matt Forte looking to play Saturday

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) said he hopes to play in the preseason game against the New York Giants Saturday, Aug. 26, but is not sure if he will be allowed to play.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bilal Powell is in the lead for the primary role in the Jets backfield. Forte has been slowed by this hamstring injury but he insists that he'll be ready for Week 1 of the regular season.

SEA - RB C.J. Prosise should play

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks RB C.J. Prosise (groin) is expected to play in Week 3 of the preseason, according to running backs coach Chad Morton.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Prosise will likely get limited work with this groin injury. A fine pass-catching back, Prosise is quite interesting for fantasy owners in PPR leagues. Eddie Lacy and Thomas Rawls will compete for carries, but Prosise should get most of the receiving work out of the backfield. He's RB43 (9.10) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Source: WGR Sports Radio 550 - Sal Capaccio

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Matthews has been working his way back from a chest injury. He has expressed confidence that he'll be ready for the start of the regular season. Matthews is going off the board at WR44 (9.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

IND - WR Donte Moncrief not ready for full contact

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Zak Keefer

Indianapolis Colts WR Donte Moncrief (shoulder) has reportedly been wearing a non-contact jersey since returning to practice on Aug. 9.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Moncrief is dealing with a minor AC sprain in his shoulder. We're excited about Moncrief's upside in that offense provided that QB Andrew Luck is healthy. Moncrief has a good chance to outperform his current ADP of WR42 (9.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

NE - RB Mike Gillislee fully healthy

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee (hamstring) said he's 100 percent and flying around the practice field.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for fantasy owners who already drafted Gillislee as the assumed lead back for the Patriots. They will use a RBBC with guys like James White mixed in, but Gillislee could have at least RB3/flex value if he gets part of what LeGarrette Blount got last year. This hamstring injury for Gillislee has opened the door for Rex Burkhead in this competition. Watch to see this unfold as the rest of the preseason continues.

HOU - RB Lamar Miller struggled with efficiency in '16

    Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports

Houston Texans RB Lamar Miller finished in the bottom eight of 42 qualifying running backs in 2016 for fantasy efficiency in five of six measured categories. Among running backs with at least 120 offensive touches, he ranked 35th or worse in fantasy points per game (36th), touchdown efficiency (36th), yards per touch (35th), standard fantasy points per touch (38th), and PPR fantasy points per touch (39th). Miller finished 18th in PPR points per game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reports this offseason have indicated we could see a smaller workload for Miller in 2017. He set a career-high mark with 268 carries in 2016, but we don't see him hitting that (or surpassing) number this year. Rookie D'Onta Foreman will take some carries away, and those may be near the goal line...something to hurt his fantasy value even if Miller is more efficient as a runner in his second year with the Texans.

LAR - RB Todd Gurley marred by inefficiency last year

    Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports
Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley ranked 41st in fantasy efficiency among 42 qualifying running backs in 2016. He finished last in PPR fantasy scoring per touch, and second to last in standard fantasy points per touch as well as offensive yards per touch. Gurley ranked 39th in standard fantasy points per contest and 22nd in PPR points per game, which was his highest ranking of any efficiency category.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Rams will have to prove they can threaten a defense with the passing game or Gurley could struggle again this year. Defenses can stack the line and dare the Rams to throw because of second-year QB Jared Goff. He'll have to be better, and new weapons around him like Robert Woods and Sammy Watkins could help open things up for the passing game.

    Friday Update

WAS - TE Jordan Reed confident in toe

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (toe) doesn't believe his toe injury is a serious issue, adding that he doesn't feel any pain now thanks to a wider cleat and orthotics. The oft-injured tight end would like to play some this weekend, but head coach Jay Gruden admitted that Reed is one of those players who can easily get back into the swing of things.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Remember, Reed was only healthy for ten weeks last season. He's going as the No. 4 tight end in drafts, 49th player overall which tells you how much production you can expect even in a limited season. However, make sure you have an alternative because he will likely be hurt this season at some point. When he's on the field though, he puts up points.

HOU - WR Jaelen Strong's suspension stands

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Houston Texans WR Jaelen Strong is suspended for Week 1 of the regular season for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Will Fuller is injured and Strong is suspended. Whoever is under center is going to have limited options. DeAndre Hopkins is going to have to deal with extra attention as well, though he has battled through that before. Neither Strong nor Braxton Miller are getting drafted right now and we expect it to stay that way. One might emerge but so far nobody seems to be ready.

NYJ - Quarterbacks splitting first-team reps for Jets

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets QBs Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty split first-team repetitions during practice this week. A started has not officially been named yet for the regular season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team keeps saying Josh McCown is the starter (well, Head coach Todd Bowles at least) but he's not getting reps which means he is unlikely to play against the Giants. Which means.... the Jets still have no clue what they are doing. Maybe trying to remove all doubt Hackenberg is a bust. Avoid the passing offense of this team at all costs.

DAL - QB Dak Prescott to play full half?

Source: NFL Network - Dan Hellie

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott said he anticipates playing the entire first half of the Cowboys' Week 3 preseason game. He would even like to play into the third quarter, but admitted that will be up to head coach Jason Garrett.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As the third preseason game is normally a dress rehearsal for the season, there are two aims for any team. First, get the offense and defense into a nice rhythm in a solid game situation and second, get everyone out without injury. That means we think Prescott is unlikely to see the second half, though stranger things have happened (just ask Mark Sanchez about his last preseason game as a Jet). Really, that's all Fantasy GMs want as well, as many of them are looking to him as a solid QB2. His current ADP is around 93 overall and he is the No 13 quarterback going off the board.

TEN - Re-evaluation coming for WR Corey Davis

    Source: TitanInsider.com - Terry McCormick

Tennessee Titans WR Corey Davis (hamstring) will be re-evaluated following the Titans' Week 3 preseason matchup to see how he is recovering from his hamstring ailment.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Titans have no need to rush him back. Head coach Mike Mularkey says the team wants him to be ready for the start of the regular season so they will be careful with him. As high as he went in the NFL draft, it remains to be seen if he can have a huge impact this year. Like most rookie receivers, he will struggle as he adjusts, and his ADP of 44th receiver in drafts tells us owners are feeling the same.

SEA - WR Tyler Lockett still not playing

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett (leg) is not expected to play in Week 3 of the preseason this weekend.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Every day he is out is another day a guy like Kasen Williams can make a move. Aside from Doug Baldwin none of the other receivers have huge value, but it's worth keeping an eye on battles like these to see who could emerge. Lockette has always struggled to stay healthy, so this could be bad news for his roster spot.

MIN - RB Latavius Murray to make preseason debut

Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson

Minnesota Vikings RB Latavius Murray (ankle) is expected to play in Week 3 of the preseason this weekend, according to head coach Mike Zimmer.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rookie Dalvin Cook has already made his case for at least a significant share of carries, if not the lead job. The Vikings made a three-year investment in Murray though, so this could get very complicated, very quickly. Right now his absence has torched his ADP - Murray is tracking as the 135th player overall and the 47th running back, while Cook is lodged at 39 and 17, respectively. It will be interesting to see what Murray does in the next two preseason games, and whether it's too late to get a significant share of work. If he does, both backs could see their production take a hit.

SEA - RB Thomas Rawls, RB C.J. Prosise to be inactive

    Source: Seahawks.com - John Boyle

Seattle Seahawks RBs Thomas Rawls (ankle) and C.J. Prosise (groin) will both miss Seattle's Week 3 preseason tilt. Head coach Peter Carroll did say that both could play if it were the regular season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Eddie Lacy gets another start, but now he isn't just battling Rawls or Prosise. Now he has seventh round rookie Chris Carson to worry about. Carson has put on his 'big boy pants' and been a demon both in practice and games. Owners are still not drafting him, while Lacy is going as the 30th running back. That could change soon, and Carson is at least someone who should be kept in mind as a late round flier. Rawls is still the lead back and Prosise is still the third down back, but Lacy is assured nothing and Rawls is often banged up. Carson could get a shot down the road.

LAR - WR Cooper Kupp won't play Saturday

    Source: TheRams.com - Myles Simmons

Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp (groin) is dealing with a minor groin issue that will keep him from playing in Week 3 of the preseason, according to head coach Sean McVay.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kupp is going deep in drafts if he goes at all, in part because of the acquisition of Sammy Watkins and in part because of the uncertainty around the offense. He's a slot guy, though, so Watkins isn't the former Bill to worry about - Robert Woods is. We're not feeling this position has a lot of value when it comes to the Rams, so Kupp remains a late round flier even if he wins that battle.

MIN - WR Adam Thielen being used in slot

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Andrew Krammer

Minnesota Vikings WR Adam Thielen has been playing in the slot in three-receiver formations in an effort to further utilize his versatility. QB Sam Bradford said it has also helped develop better chemistry with different defensive looks.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thielen's production was a bit inconsistent, and he may see a little more work in the slot. With his sure hands (he dropped just two balls in 2016), that could mean solid production. That said, we are not feeling great about this offense overall and there are a glut of interesting but not fantastic receiving options which could lead to more inconsistency. Thielen - or really anyone not named Stefon Diggs - should be a late round guy in any format save Best Ball where you can take advantage of his big games without worrying when they will show up.

GB - RB Ty Montgomery should play

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tom Silverstein

Green Bay Packers RB Ty Montgomery (leg) is expected to play this week versus the Denver Broncos, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's the preseason dress rehearsal so it makes sense and they want to see him against one of the best defenses in the NFL. Our biggest concern with him isn't the competition for carries or his injury - it's the inconsistent use in the offense by the Packers. If they give him a solid amount of carries, Montgomery should be a solid RB2. However, if they only give him a handful, his production will be scattered and tough to manage. He's currently going as the No. 19 back off the board and while we think his ceiling is higher than that, we worry about his floor.

DAL - RB Ezekiel Elliott could play Saturday

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Brandon George

Updating previous reports, Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott could play in the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 26, as head coach Jason Garrett is leaning toward playing him. It would be his first dosage of action this preseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Suspended or not, he's going to get his work. His ADP is still really up there - 9th running back and 17th overall - despite currently being slated to miss the first six weeks. He's appealing his suspension, and we think it could be reduced a bit, but just in case, you should have an alternative.

TB - WR Mike Evans out of practice

    Source: ESPN.com - Jenna Laine

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans (undisclosed) is out of practice Thursday, Aug. 24, for the second straight day.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not worried about this as Evans will be ready for the season. He's going as the No. 4 receiver in drafts, 7th player overall and worth the price.

BAL - RB Danny Woodhead expected to sit Saturday

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley
Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 23, and is not expected to play in the preseason game against the Buffalo Bills Saturday, Aug. 23.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
No surprise here. Woodhead is a seasoned veteran and doesn't need a ton of work in the preseason. This hamstring injury will likely keep him out in week four of the preseason too.

    Saturday Update

KC - RB Spencer Ware carted off

    Source: Chiefs.com - B.J. Kissel

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (knee) was carted off the field after suffering a knee injury during the preseason game Friday, Aug. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The injury mechanism wasn't clear, but Ware appeared to be unable to put pressure on the leg. Kareem Hunt would skyrocket to 4th-5th round value if this injury is serious.

NE - WR Julian Edelman suffers what's feared to be torn ACL

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Ian Rapoport reports: "WR Julian Edelman has suffered what is believed to be a torn ACL, per sources. MRI tomorrow to confirm."

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Edelman's injury was a non-contact knee buckle when he was planting his foot. The biggest immediate beneficiary would be Chris Hogan, who would likely get the nod in two wide sets, but we shouldn't overlook the possibility that Brandin Cooks gets more short targets. While Edelman is very productive, Danny Amendola and even Rex Burkhead, who has experience in the slot, can provide some of his tactical value. This wouldn't be a crippling injury for the Patriots pass offense, so there is likely a net gain for at least 1-2 pass catchers in this offense and only a small hit to Tom Brady. The Patriots have a plethora of talented pass catchers and personnel packages to put defenses at a disadvantage and Edelman isn't as essential as Rob Gronkowski or Cooks to this offense's success.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed to be game-time decision Sunday

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (toe) has looked good in practice according to head coach Jay Gruden, but he will remain a game-time decision versus the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Aug, 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Seeing Reed play and push off of that toe like he does at 100% would be reassuring, but this kind of injury is subject to recurrence. Reed is falling to the fifth round and later and might be worth it if he can be effective in December or for most of the season up to that point, but the deck is stacked against him.

Tennessee Titans WR Eric Decker (ankle) has been ruled out for the team's third preseason game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Aug. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Rishard Matthews is the only healthy Top 3 receiver on the Titans, even though he is also going third among the three. Decker is still a solid choice at a reasonable 7th/8th round ADP, and all Titans receivers can make a case for being values at current ADP, along with quarterback Marcus Mariota.

NYG - Odell Beckham receiving new-age treatment

Source: New York Post - Fred Kerber and Mark Hale

Updating previous reports, New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (ankle) will receive Thera-Lase cell treatment on his injured ankle Friday, Aug. 25. The treatment's website claims that Thera-Lase 'is a non-invasive, drug free laser therapy treatment which provides relief and healing for both chronic and acute pain, accelerates wound healing and reduces inflammation related to soft tissue injuries.' Former Carolina Panthers DE Jared Allen used Thera-Lase two years ago after breaking his foot and was available to play in the Super Bowl three weeks later, which matches Beckham's timeline for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This underscores the possible limited or lost availability for Beckham in the early season and risk of re-injury. It's reasonable to move him down from his usual spot in the Top 5 of drafts.

CAR - QB Cam Newton solid in limited work

    Source: NFL.com

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton went 2-for-2 for 21 yards and one touchdown in the preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday, Aug. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Newton didn't play as much as starters usually do in the third preseason game, but unlike Andrew Luck, at least we got to see him play this preseason. He's worth the ADP that often puts him outside of the Top 8 quarterbacks drafted.

Philadelphia Eagles WR Torrey Smith caught one pass for 50 yards and one touchdown against the Miami Dolphins Thursday, Aug. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith could have similar value to Kenny Stills in a best case scenario. His volume will be low, but he'll get most of the deep shots in the Eagles offense and appears to have secured his starting role.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wentz provided reason for optimism in the Eagles pass offense, although he is on the fringe of draftable fantasy quarterbacks. This is good news for Alshon Jeffery, Zach Ertz, and maybe even Torrey Smith.

    Sunday Update

KC - RB Spencer Ware may be out 2-8 weeks

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Updating an ongoing story, Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (knee) could miss as little as two weeks because of his knee injury or could miss as much as eight weeks, according to a source. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI Saturday, Aug. 26, to determine the severity of the injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kareem Hunt, an exciting rookie RB from Toledo, will now be the team's featured back according to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. Ware's status for the start of the season is up in the air right now, but we could see him go on the PUP list which forces him out the first six week. It really depends on how quickly the team thinks he can recover.

NE - WR Julian Edelman done for the season

Source: NFL Network - Albert Breer

Updating previous reports, New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (knee) suffered a complete ACL tear in his right knee and will miss the 2017 season, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This means Chris Hogan moves up the pecking order for the Patriots. Brandin Cooks is already in line to be heavily targeted this year, and now Hogan should see a bump in production. Watch for Danny Amendola and perhaps even RB Rex Burkhead to get some more work in the passing game. Edelman is not set to be a free agent until 2020, but there's no more guaranteed money in his contract. This leaves his future with the team in question, and Edelman will turn 32 years old next year.

KC - RB Kareem Hunt leads the backfield

    Source: ESPN.com

Kansas City Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt carried a team-high nine times for 39 yards in a 26-13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the preseason Friday, Aug. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A third-round pick out of Toledo, Hunt gets an opportunity to be a big part of the offense. Hunt has a good all-around skill set and is a lunch-pail type of back who can grind an opponent down. He's also a good receiver out of the backfield. Fantasy owners should consider Hunt a third- or fourth-round pick due to his skill set and upside.

JAX - QB Blake Bortles wins starting job

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles will be the team's starting quarterback for the season opener against the Houston Texans Sept. 10.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bortles has the job for now, but we imagine he's on a pretty short leash as the starter. If he struggles then the team could turn to Chad Henne as the starter. The Jaguars have built a team that should play suffocating defense and run the ball well. That limits the amount of burden put on the shoulders of the quarterback.

JAX - RB Leonard Fournette back on the field

    Source: The Florida Times-Union - Ryan O'Halloran

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette (foot) is participating in practice Saturday, Aug. 26.

Great news for the Jaguars and for fantasy owners. Fournette's preseason is done, but he's getting ready for Week 1 of the regular season. His skill set is that of a hammer who can serve as the centerpiece for the Jaguars offense. If his body holds up (ankle problems in college at LSU), Fournette has the capability to be at least a RB2 for fantasy owners in 2017.

PIT - Two receivers on bubble?

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ray Fittipaldo

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Sammie Coates and WR Darrius Heyward-Bey are on the fringe for the 53-man roster. These two are among several receivers fighting for the final two spots.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Coates is fast in a straight line but concentration problems have plagued him since his college days at Auburn. Heyward-Bey has a great size/speed combination and can contribute on special teams. We could see one but not both getting cut.

BAL - WR Breshad Perriman runs routes Saturday

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens WR Breshad Perriman (hamstring) ran some routes and caught passes before the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's always something with Perriman. He has been sidelined since the beginning of the month because of a hamstring injury.

JAX - RB T.J. Yeldon remains sidelined

    Source: The Florida Times-Union - Ryan O'Halloran

Jacksonville Jaguars RB T.J. Yeldon (hamstring) is not participating in practice Saturday, Aug. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Yeldon is unlikely to be a part of what the Jaguars do on offense in 2017. Rookie RB Leonard Fournette should be the lead back (when healthy) and Chris Ivory should serve as his primary backup.

GB - WR Jordy Nelson wants to play a few more years

    Source: NFL.com - Jeremy Bergman

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson said he is looking to play two to four more years before he decides to retire.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
So long as he's healthy, Nelson can be an impact WR in the NFL for quite some time. Nelson has two years left on his current contract and said he would see how he feels at the end of that contact.

JAX - WR Marqise Lee eyeing return to practice

Source: The Associated Press - Mark Long

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Marqise Lee (ankle) expects to practice Saturday, Aug. 26, for the first time since suffering a high ankle sprain during practice on Aug. 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
High ankle sprains are tricky to deal with and they take longer to heal than a regular sprain. Lee has the potential for around 50 catches this year, but we're not investing in the Jaguars passing game for our fantasy teams. Look elsewhere for better WR5/WR6 with upside.

MIN - QB Teddy Bridgewater could return in 2017

    Source: FOXSports.com - Jay Glazer

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) may be able to 'get back this year,' according to head coach Mike Zimmer.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Bridgewater could return, but it will likely be a backup role to Sam Bradford. The team didn't pick up his fifth-year option earlier this year, so the 2014 first-round pick is set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2018.

That limits the amount of burden put on the shoulders of the quarterback. in there by the 3rd game .

He sucks . Henne will be the starter by game 4 .
