The opening line for this game has Arkansas State Red Wolves favored by 3.5. The public money in the early going is coming in on the Florida International Golden Panthers. The latest public consensus shows 55% of the early money on the road team and that has driven the line down to three points in some offshore sportsbooks.
The Golden Panthers enter this game off a bye after getting a big road win against Akron. The Panthers are fueled by a high-octane offense that amassed over 500 yards in the last game. Backfield mates Kedrick Rhodes and Darriet Perry moved the ball on the ground and scored three times. Quarterback Wesley Carroll managed the game beautifully under center and is capable of leading this team to more victories.
Arkansas State is also off a win against Louisiana Monroe and has won three straight coming into this prime time event. Quarterback Ryan Aplin leads Arkansas State and has the ability to use a quick and short passing game to move the ball down the field. Dwayne Frampton is his main target and is un-coverable. He is a beast on the outside and a touchdown maker.
The Golden Panthers have a solid offense, as mentioned, but they have problems with turnovers and penalties. While neither team will strike fear in opposing teams on defense, they are quality ball clubs, playing a pivotal game in the Sun Belt conference.
The latest sports betting trends favor the home team in this game. The Golden Panthers are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games as an underdog of 3.5-10.0, 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games in October and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a bye week. I have FIU +3 1/2. While it scares me that Ryan picked FIU, we must all remember that a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in awhile. FIU has played a tougher schedule by far imho, and they were a stones' throw from being undefeated at this point. Even if they lose, it's very much likely they don't lose by more than a FG, judging by their two one-score loses to better opponents this year.Comment -

I think FIU is the best team in the sun belt this year, followed closely by ULL. Arkansas State is probably third, but far off from these two. T.Y. Hilton has been recovering from a hamstring injury against UCF earlier this season and has improved his numbers every week.
It's a close one and between T.Y.'s hamstring and this being a rare Tuesday night game it diminishes my certainty on FIU. I'm teasing FIU to +8 and the under to 58.5 for a small bet.Comment -

Mid-week Sun Belt football is back, featuring a nationally televised matchup between a pair of teams trying to stay alive in the conference race.
Florida International was an early-season ATS dynamo, winning its first three games and covering the spread in each. But an injury to star wide receiver/kick returner T.Y. Hilton led to losses in two of the Golden Panthers’ last three, with their only win coming against an Akron team that is considered among the absolute worst in the nation. Hilton will play Tuesday.
The Golden Panthers haven’t covered the spread since upsetting Central Florida on Sept. 19 and must travel to Jonesboro, Ark., as short road dogs.
Arkansas State has played well for first-year coach Hugh Freeze and has covered in five of six. The Red Wolves bounced back from an ugly win at Western Kentucky with a solid road conference win at Louisiana-Monroe on Oct. 8.
THE LINE
Arkansas State opened as a 2.5-point favorite Sunday at the Las Vegas Wynn. Early money came in on the Red Wolves, pushing the number to as high as 3.5. The number had settled back at -3 as of Monday afternoon.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
Florida International boasts a balanced offensive attack, orchestrated by quarterback Wes Carroll, a transfer from Mississippi State. The Golden Panthers average 248 passing yards and 156 on the ground. They’re not only excellent at getting to the passer (2.83 sacks, 19th nationally), but they also protect Carroll well, allowing just over one sack per game (32nd nationally).
Protecting the quarterback will be key, as Arkansas State also ranks high in sacks (2.67, 22nd). The Red Wolves, however, have been susceptible to pressure and are surrendering more than two sacks (2.17, 73rd). Of course, they throw it a lot, too, with junior quarterback Ryan Aplin. His favorite target is Josh Jarboe, a highly-touted recruit, who originally signed with Oklahoma.
Arkansas State is 15th in passing offense at 303.5 yards, tops in the Sun Belt.
INJURIES
Hilton, arguably the best pro prospect in the conference, appeared to be back at full strength in the win over Akron. He caught 12 passes for 144 yards against the Zips for his fourth 100-yard receiving game this season.
The Golden Panther also expect a boost from the return of wide out Jacob Younger, who missed the Akron game.
Arkansas State is reporting no injuries.

yea i like it bc of the price... and in a game like this i see it being a coin flip like i said earlier... yea they have home field but one thing people forget is teams like this dont typically get a national broadcast so FIU should have no problem gettin hyped up for this and makin it a game..Comment -
yea i seen the rain as well... to me the smartest bet for your money is FIU ML... this game should be close regardless but with weather like that it favors FIU as well... The ark st qb has thrown more INT than TD so the rain wont help that stat. On top of all that everyone is saying well i'll go with the home team .. BUT as a former player and i'm sure some of you are too.. when you're a team that is not used to being on the national spotlight.. the only game on tonight.. you have no problem traveling and getting hyped up for a game like this! to me its not a huge advantage being the home team bc of this.. but good luck to everyone!Comment -
