Your reading ny times to tell you what's going to happen with SEC football?

I know its all about the money, but if Mizzou thought it was hard to win a Big 12 championship. Its virtually impossible to win an SEC championship w/o the proper bankroll...

they broke the story. technically, everyone else who reports on the story now also will be reading the NY Times to tell them what's going to happen with SEC football.

agree. i suppose that the thinking is that, with the Big 12 a single division conference, you have to climb over Texas, Oklahoma, Okie State and now TCU to get to the title. in the SEC West, you have to climb over Bama, LSU, Arky, A&M and maybe Auburn (someone has to go to the SEC East). it will be just about as difficult to be decent in the SEC West as to be decent in the Big 12, and very difficult to win either. the difference is (1) more money, (2) getting into more fertile recruiting territory, and (3) no longer having their future depend upon Texas' next dalliance with the PAC-12 or the ACC or independence or whatever. who envisioned that the Longhorn Network would cause so many problems?

bottomline, i think that Mizzou wanted to know where its home was going to be long-term, and fell prey to the popular theory that we'll soon have 4 16-team superconferences. maybe that's where we're heading eventually, but i don't think that it's nearly as imminent as many would believe. assuming Mizzou to SEC actually happens, there's no reason to think that the SEC, Big Ten, PAC-12 or ACC will be in any rush to expand further in the near future. the Big 12 and Big East are treading water, and eventually, it's foreseeable that one of them (likely the Big East) won't be viable as a football conference and will break apart. SEC, Big Ten, PAC-12 and ACC will bide their time knowing that the next round of expansion likely will be their last, so they'd better get it right. SEC will work back channels to try to get VT and FSU (and may be willing to settle for WVU), Big Ten will continue to wait for ND, ACC knows it can have UConn whenever it wants and may be interested in WVU, PAC-12 had room to add four schools from the Big 12 if that league breaks apart and UT realizes that its stance on revenue sharing is actually making it less attractive. my guess would be that, five years from now, the Big East no longer will be a football conference and we'll have five 12-14 team leagues, maybe one or two 16-team leagues.
