For what its worth - Week 1 Picks
Cupcake week and lots of high spreads out there. Got lucky with Syracuse (-6) on Thursday and their 2-pt conversion and overtime win. The higher the units the more confident the play. Happy Football'ing!!!

*3 Units* So Mississippi (-11.5) over LA Tech: The below the radar Eagles are returning 8 starters this year including their QB Davis (63% comp last year with 20 TD passes). Offense averaged 48ppg in their last 4 home games and scored more than 40ppg in 7 of their last 9 games. LA Tech is not a road team. They gave up more than 34pts on the road in 8 games last year. Little side stat: Visitor is 24-10 against the spread in LA Tech games.

*1.5 Units* Stanford (-28) over San Jose State: Stanford averaging 36 and 40 ppg in the last 2 seasons. Harbaugh may be gone but QB Luck (70% completion, 32TD Passes and 3,300+yds last year) is the real deal. San Jose is returning 11 starters from last years Defense - which ranked 117th in scoring. Should be no contest for Luck and company. Little side stat: Stanford outscored opponents 80-17 combined in their last 2 home games.

*1 Unit* Auburn (-28) over Utah State: 28 looks like a big number without Cam Newton under center, but Gene Chizik is calling the shots and he's turned the Auburn program around since 2008. Auburn lost 16 starters - including Newton - from last years team...but Utah State also lost one of their only weapons in QB Borel. Utah State also gave up at least 41 ppg in 5 of their games last season. This *could* be a trap game for Auburn with Mississippi State knocking on the door next week - but there is no reason to think Auburn and company are not fully focused with something to prove sans Newton.

*1 Unit* Ohio State (-33.5) over Akron: Yeah, Ohio State is in a world of hurt with off-the-field issues including the most recent loss of 3 more players. Minus Pryor and Tressel, there is a lot riding on the shoulders of new head coach Luke Fickell. But Akron couldnt be a more perfect opponent for OSU to get back into the swing of things, coming of a 1-11 season last year where they were held to 10pts or less 5 times. Akron offense was ranked 119th and 118th in total and scoring Offense respectively. No reason to think the depth, size and strength of Ohio State wont wear a much lesser quality opponent in Akron down.

*1 Unit* Pitt (-26) over Buffalo: The 'Stache is out at Pitt and is replaced by Tulsa head coach Todd Grahm. Tulsa finished ranked 5th and 6th in total and scoring defense respectively, so he's bringing something to the table. Returning leaders RB Grahm and QB Sunseri call the shots for an experienced offense. Buffalo gave up an average 30ppg last year in and only covered ATS once. Nothing really on this one other than playing the numbers.
