Dan's Season Long Picks

Last year I crushed the SEC, so hopefully this year I can do the same and help a few guys out over here. Feel free to put some insight in on any of my picks because i'd like to see the other opinions of those on the other side.


Futures Plays (locked these in a long time ago)

Texas AM under 9.5-120 (2units)
Overhyped team. I don't see them having much of a chance vs Arkansas at all, and a lot of other teams of less caliber could give them trouble.

Mississippi State under 8 -115 (2 units)
Solid team but I think SEC west will still eat them up. A lot of people want to like them and love their coach, but honestly they don't have anything very impressive.

Auburn over 6 -125 (2 units)
Everybody loves to hate the Tigers, but a little more respect is due to the defending national champs.They have a lot of young talent, but those kids still got good PT last year. Trovon Reed is a stud. Both sides of the line are my only concern, but I think they could surprise teams like SC, or UGA which is always a toss up.

LSU over 9 -130 (2 units)
Not really worried about JJ leaving.. The reason I like this team obviously has nothing to do with him. They really have no weaknesses besides qb and if there is any team in the league that doesn't need a stud qb to win it is probably LSU or Alabama.

Ohio State over 8 -120 (1 unit)
People are blinded by the scandals surrounding them, I think some need a reality check because they should be just fine in the Big 10 this year.

Only bet week 1 that I will definitely make is Georgia. Maybe very small on LSU.

A pass on A&M. That can go either way. I would lean under, but they play most of their real conmpetition at home.

I do not see Miss. State losing 5 games this season. They have 4 non-con locks, and games with Kentucky and Ole Miss. that adds up to 6 wins. I can't see them going 1-5 against the rest of the conference, though the schedule is tough.

I think Auburn can easily lose 7 games this season. I can see them losing all 5 away games. Then they have Miss. State, Florida, and Alabama at home.

LSU over 9 is also a stretch. If they lose to Oregon (and there is a pretty solid chance of that happening now) They can only lose one more game. They go to Miss. State, West Virginia and Alabama, and host Florida and Arkansas. Having to go 5-1 against that schedule is going to be tough.

Ohio State Over 8 will be decided in the first 5 games. If they win all 5, they should be home free. If they lose one game, it will be tougher, having to go to Nebraska and a very revengeful Michigan, and hosting Wisconsin and Penn State. If they lose two games, they have no chance. With a new Head Coach, and a bunch of unproven talent, this is a pass for me.

Another problem is that you are giving a lot of vig on all of these wagers. That can cut into any winning you may accumulate.

I disagree with your assessement of MSU... Only lost 3 starters from last year. Relf had a great off-season and Ballard figured out how to do things right at the end of the year. Relf developed as a passer in the last 3 games plus had the entire off season to get better. No losses at receiver. Defense will be stout. Losses to South Carolina, Bama, and LSU are the only ones I see.... If that many.

I'm on the fence with MSU - the offense should be the best Mullen has had so far (assuming they have the O-line squared away). But they lost some studs on defense. I'm concerned that if they can't get pressure on the QB that having all that experience in the backfield isn't going to matter much. Plus, I'm interested to see how the D plays in general w/o Diaz calling the game.

All in all though road games @ Auburn and @ Georgia are winnable. I think they're right on the number at 8 personally, so maybe they can steal a home game from LSU, Bama or SC.

I also want to add QB Chris Relf has 140.46 passer rating... Not too shabby. Defense loses 2 starters, but McPhee will be replaced with someone bigger and faster. The biggest loss for the dawgs is DC Manny Diaz, but new coordinator Chris Wilson was responsible for the front seven last year so that side of the ball should still be quality. The scheming will be the key to the D. That's the only question mark in my mind. Offense will be much improved. Defense should hold steady if not a little better. 9 or 10 wins for the bullys.
