Urban Meyer to Ohio State 2012
I can smell this one coming.....

Tressel is damaged goods and will resign under heavy pressure. Meyer will take over his home state's most successful football program next year.

    Can you smell this happening..............

I could definitely see this happen. Tressel's reputation is tainted, and this would probably be the best job available for Urban Meyer

Wookiee, Urban Meyer once said that Ohio State, Notre Dame and Michigan were the only three jobs his wife could not veto.

His family (especially one daughter) is griping about he's never home because of his job with ESPN.

After a year away from coaching and especially after working with the nurds at ESPN....I think he would jump at the Ohio State job if offered.

I would be willing to bet any amount of money this will take place. It sets up too good.

Hate Meyer, hate OSU. I hope they both fail.

RPP, tell us how you really feel my friend.

jwbama, I agree with you...the stars seem to be lined up for this to happen.

I guarantee you one thing, if Meyer became the Buckeye coach, he will win and win big at Ohio State. Meyer is a proven coach who knows how to recruit and win.

I can see this one happening too. Tressel is much better off in the SEC, we know how to hide these shenanigans much better than the minor conferences.

I just don't see how Ohio State can justify keeping Tressel. You have to know if the powers that be make a change, Meyer would be at the top of the list to become head coach.

My view is Urban would jump at the chance.

I think that the deciding factor will be when the NCAA rules on Tressel's fate. If they rule before this season starts, and they suspend him for the entire season, it will be easy for Ohio State to justify keeping him. They just write this season off. If they do NOT rule by the start of the season, then the problem becomes a lot more complicated. Will Ohio State keep him if he is going to be suspended for parts of TWO seasons? With a new QB next year, will Ohio State want to start fresh, with a new Head Coach, or will they decide to keep Tressel on, knowing that they will not have a head coach at the beginning of next season also?

Ohio State may be in some deep caca now, with this car investigation. If this proves out, they will get hit harder than USC did. Would Meyer want to go to a school looking at severe NCAA sanctions?

NO, if the NCAA hammers Ohio State, Meyer would be crazy to jump into such a mess. This could cause the Buckeyes problems for years.

                              Examples: Alabama, Oklahoma and others................

this is Doubtful. Maybe a reduction of a few scholarships but I doubt anything major happens. It's not a case of the school supplying illegal benefits to the players. When Ohio State starts winning in 2011 a lot of this will just blow over.

Bet-Master, I appreciate your point of view partner, but the NCAA Police could care less if Ohio State wins this season. Buckeyes have SERIOUS issues and this will get ugly....no handslap for sure.

I'm talking about how people will forget about OSU, not the NCAA. And the reason I think lesser penalties will be enforced are the fact it wasn't the University personally committing these violations, like we saw with USC. If anything more is handed down by the NCAA I believe it would be to Tressell or the Players involved personally and not with the whole program. Honestly this whole thing is still rediculous that they are in trouble because the sold their own items.

BetMaster, schools suffer, not coaches or former players. Coaches and former players who broke rules can be fired, harrassed, then go to NFL, TV or other opportunities. Schools are stuck with the situation and must deal with their future without the men who buried them.

Ohio State is buried and the smart guys are trying to figure out how to get out of this mess. If you are anyone else thinks OSU is in short water....know how to swim my friend.

The problem is that Ohio State now is facing even more allegations with the car business. These allegations keep piling up. The NCAA is going to slam the door on them. The more these alllegations pile up, the worse it gets for Ohio State. If enough pile up, then you are going to get into the lack of institutional control issue.

my understanding is urban bought a house in columbus in the past year. my belief is a rational thought of his taking over the osu program would largely depend on the severity of the sanctions against the program.......

Meyer is not going to either Notre Dame or Ohio State. Notre Dame will keep Kelly for at least 4 more years. The Irish win 9 or more games this season. Ohio State is going down, and going down big time. What they did was much worse than any "lack of institutional control" that USC may have committed. Ohio Sate flat lied to the NCAA. I hope they get the death penalty, but that will not happen. What will happen is that Ohio State will receive penalties stiffer than the ones USC received.

I don't see how the sanctions will be stiffer than the ones USC received. First, the root cause of all of these findings at OSU was self-reported. There's also a huge difference between Reggie Bush receiving millions of dollars in benefits, and some OSU students selling their own stuff just to pay rent.

The biggest problem the NCAA should have with OSU is the fact that Jim Tressel lied to them about any knowledge of their players selling memorabilia, but now Jim Tressel is gone and no longer affiliated with the university.

ohio st might end up like miami when they got nailed back in the day. It takes a long time to come out of the hole once you're buried 10 ft under this kind of shit.

I think Urban *might* go to OSU, but it wont be until all this sh*t blows over for OSU. No idea if it's a slap on the wrist or a death sentence, but Urban wont be part of it until it all blows over.
