    What about MISS ST?
Miss State plays AU and LSU games 2 & 3 on the season, and both AU and LSU are known to struggle early on in the season. They play @home vs LSU which could also give them a slight edge in the game. However, I still think they have to name a starting quarterback. More than likely russell, who only saw little action last year 39/67 635yds 5td 6int (3 vs lsu in death valley).

If they can win these two early games, it would make some very good momentum carrying on into the season. Alabama is the only other dominant team I see listed under their schedule , we all know bama will have the Defense but how will the offense turn out?

Miss state had a very good rushing attack last year averaging 214.8 ypg on the ground.
The defense also held its own allowing less than 20 ppg.

I am not saying they win the west, but they could get a very good bowl bid with a 9-3/10-2 season.

Mississippi State's starting QB will be Chris Relf with Tyler Russell backing him up. Mullens plans on playing both this season. The Bulldogs have a good receiving corp and could make some noise on offense.

This is a team that other SEC teams don't look forward to playing. They will hit you.

EWWWW Miss State scares me. Seems like Mullen is silently putting together something pretty good in cow bell town. It would be nice to see that game(Bama v MSU) mean something like it did in the late 90's. The 99 game was a great one. That was the last classic I can think of off the top of my head.

jwbama, Alabama holds a 75-17-3 advantage over Mississippi State.

Dan Mullen has recruited and coached up a bunch of players who believe they can beat anyone they play. They will be a tough opponent for any team this season including Alabama.

70-1 to win the national championship, could be worth $10

Fish, I don't think Mississippi State will win the national championship, but 70-1 for ten bucks, sounds like a good deal to me.

Anyone know what the odds were for Auburn last year?

I think that Miss. State is going to be very competitve this season, but I do not think that they have enough overall talent to win the SEC West, much less anything else.

You are probably right BD, but they will knock some teams and will play tough. I wouldnt be surprised to see them finish 2 or 3 in the west

Their QB situation is very much up in the air with Freshman Dylan Favre (nephew of Brett Favre) having a great spring, it is doubtful he will start, but they don't have a clear leader at that position. They also lost a lot of talent on defense if you remember from the draft this past weekend. I expect them to regress a little this season.

I have them picked at #3, behind Alabama and LSU, but that can easily change if LSU cannot find an offense. LSU travels to both Miss. State and Alabama, as well as West Virginia. They also open against Oregon. Miss. State has a much softer non-con schedule, and hosts both Alabama and LSU.

Got bargain prices on a couple of occasions last year, but in the case of the Bulldogs that ship has sailed.

Mississippi State will be decent but I can't see them beating LSU. Even though the game will be close. LSU defense will be to much. They will be nasty good next year. Easily the best defense in the nation

ZBOIZ my friend, I appreciate your loyality to LSU but let's get REAL. If you think LSU's defense will be the best in the nation I suggest you start doing some homework. Hell, LSU won't have the best defense in the SEC...much less the nation. Not saying they won't be good...but you said BEST.

That defense from last year was nothing but sophomore and freshmans. Trust me.... They will be right at the top once again in defenses in the nation.

ZBOIZ, I've done enough homework to know that Patrick Peterson (probably the best player in the SEC last year) is gone. Linebacker Kelvin Sheppard, the heart, soul, and leader of the defense (3rd in SEC in tackles) is gone. Defensive tackle Drake Nevis is gone and DTs Sam Montgomery is coming off injury and Anthony Johnson is unproven in the SEC. The secondary is talented but young. Look at Alabama last year with there talented and young secondary...it cost them. The kicking game is part of defense. Who is going to be your kicker? Who is going to be your punter? Both are gone. Hell, your punter Helton was second in the league last year (45.7 avg).

LSU has talent on defense and has a proven defensive coordinator. They should be good...but to say they are the best...NO SIR.

The fact is that LSU finished behind Alabama last season in total defense. ZBoiz, we know that you are a huge LSu homer, and that you disappear when LSU disappears from the SEC Championship run. Your departure may be early this year. LSU allowed 91 points in their last 3 games of last season. They could not contain quality opponents. They lose two starters on the line, a LB, and more importantly, CB Peterson. With their pathetic offense, LSU is going to get crushed by Oregon in game 1. Oregon is much faster than LSU is. LSU will certainly klose to Alabama. Thneir game at Miss. State is no lock, nor is they non-con game at West Virginia, though they should be able to win that one. 2-4 losses and no Top 5 for LSU this season.
