#10It is a money thing with BYU. They have their own T.V. network. I guess the school thinks that it is more important to hog all of the money than it is to have a legitimate shot at a decent bowl or BCS Game. BYU mistakenly thinks it can be another Notre Dame.Comment -

#13Utah's golden ticket to the Pac-12 triggered BYU's move to independence. Staying at the MWC would have killed almost any competitive advantage they had on the recruiting trail. Utah can sell the Rose Bowl and playing USC / UCLA / Colorado annually, whereas the MWC would have offered the Las Vegas Bowl and playing Wyoming / Colorado State / Air Force annually. They'll join the WCC for all other sports, which is Gonzaga's & St. Mary's conference.
There will still be a WAC. They have 7 football teams (8 for all sports, U of Denver) and are expected to hand out more invitations by April 1st. The next two additions will define the new footprint. Montana and North Texas have both declined invitations on numerous occasions, and almost ever possible candidate (Sacramento State, Portland State, Cal Poly, UC Davis, etc.) has hinted at remaining at the FBS level.
They'll be hard pressed to be choosers and not beggars with a conference made up of the following teams...
- San Jose State
- Idaho
- Utah State
- Denver (non-football)
- New Mexico State
- UT San Antonio
- Texas State
- Louisiana Tech
The MWC flirted with expanding to 12, which would have resulted in the additions of San Jose State and Utah State, but voted against expansion for the time being. Guess they're just waiting to see which two schools separate themselves from the rest of the WAC the next 5 years before killing that conference off once and for all.Comment -

#14The MWC is waiting to see what happens to the Big 12-2. If that conference fails (and right now, that is a 50-50 proposition), they will take the two Kansas teams, Iowa State, Missouri, and most likely Baylor. They will add one more team and have a 16 team conference. If Texas, T-Tech, OU and Okie State jump to the Pac 12, they too, will have a 16 team conference. A&M would then move to the SEC. If this is to happen, it porbably will happen in the next two years. That is about the time it will take BYU to realize that they are NOT another Notre Dame, and must get into some conference if they ever want to see a BCS Bowl game. Right now, they are a team without a Bowl game bid. Even the Service Academy's have bids locked up if they qualify. Notre Dame has a bid locked up. Only BYU does not.Comment -
