2011 EAST - WEST Shrine Game Roster analysis by Sporty-Sniper , I took EAST and dog ML for 525 wins 500
saturday midday, check yer time zone , 4pm eastern i think
I like the EAST due to what i see as a coaching and roster advantage
EAST = Dan Reeves > Wade Phillips = WEST
EAST goes 1st
QB
Tyrod Taylor, Devlin and Dobbs ............ TT is probably the best athlete in this game, he could destroy a soft defense not ready for his skills. Devlin is a legit NFL project from tiny Delaware where he went after leaving Penn State. I saw 4 of his games this year, he ran a nfl style offense and knows how to lead and win. He will do well here IMO. Dobbs is an option QB and i dont think they allow the option to be run in this game, if they do. ............. west is dead
RB
Carter, Cooper, Royster .................. 3 backs i think will surely make it in the NFL , Royster is the all time Penn State rusher, I liken him to Ron brown in the NFL. If he has a good OL then he will put up adequate #'s but not be an overwhelming force, he seems to lack the breakaway speed and big play knockout run that teams covet in top round picks. He must feel he is sliding into r-3 or 4 to be in this game. He is the player i think gets drafted first from this game. Cooper has typical CANES talent but i have not seen a ton of him, just pieces here and there. Carter is a poormans Ray Rice that i came across late this season and then he wowed me in his bowl game and brought me the cash. He is not fast, more of a smallish powerback.
WR and TE looks a bit weak to me, nobody jumps out at me
OL - nothing
Defense - solid in the middle with 2 ILB from Uconn including Greg Lloyd Jr, yes the son of Greg Sr the former Steelers LB, this is the son Greg Sr held a gun to years ago. Having these 2 teamates in the middle and 2 legit DT in front tells me the opponent run game should have trouble. The DT are legit bigmen from 2 steller defensive schools PSU and North Car . This gives the east 3 or 4 legit players from stout D1 defenses right in the middle of the defense. This should be a nice advantage
K - Wes Byrum from title winner Auburn, future NFL kicker, had him on most of my college FFL teams this year by midseason
WEST
QB - Johnson, Tolzien, Enderle ............... Johnson lost his job at QB cuz he sucked and is a INT machine and gimic horseshit QB with no NFL future, look for him in the CFL, Tolzien was required to handoff most of the time, if he was good at passing WISC woulda beat TCU , dont know Enderle
RB - Alex Green of Hawaii and Vai Tua of NEV are 2 backs i saw a ton of, i see a lot of WAC football out here, they are used in gimic offenses though and this game will be NFL offense, I formation mostly, not their strongsuit. Alex reminds me of Steve Jackson of the Rams with his 3rd down ability to block a blitz and catch the ball. Hawaii use to never run the ball much but they came across this talent and started doing it more. He grabbed a few hawaii records. At 6'1 and 220+ he should be a real nice 3rd RB on day 1 for someone, drafter mid rounds. TUA has talent, size and a lot of heart just zero experience in an NFL offense. He can catch and he was the primary back for a top 25 program this year
WR - BINNS is a wr i love, watched him last 2 years, he might torch a few EAST D-backs, WAEHL of oregon impressed me in his loss to oregon and Robinson of SMU exploded under pass happy June Jones offense, these are 3 legit future NFL WR , Whalen is a playmaker too, if any QB heats up my bet on EAST will be in trouble
TE - Virgil Green at times reminded me of Dustin Keller of Jets, but VG vanished in many nevada games
OL
by god there is a 6'11 tall OT from canada in this game, WOW ! # 66
Defense
I saw Winston Venible and Winterswyke make many plays for Boise, Jacobs of fresno is familiar to me, outside of them nobody else comes of the list at me as a guy i recall much,
