Everybody talks about how bad C-USA is this year, and it is. BUT, I think the Big East blows this year too, and while Louisville ranks like 10th in the country in total defense, who have they really shut down? The best offenses they have faced all year are probably Cincinnati and Oregon State, and they allowed 35 points to each. Meanwhile, they shut down the likes of Rutgers, Syracuse, Memphis and Virginia, and even West Virginia wasn't that great offensively this year (at least not as good as in the past). I think the balanced So Miss attack will keep the Cards defense off balance.

I have no opinion on the total of 57 because I am not sure Louisville has the weapons to score even vs. a bad defense.

I posted this in the other thread and it backs up LT on his statement of Louisville's schedule.

I am hearing a lot about Louisville's defense and how Southern Miss doesnt play anyone. A closer look at the numbers say that Louisville has only one win against teams with a total offense ranked better than 95th (Arkansas St. 43rd). Other wins came against Eastern Kentucky (FCS), Memphis (117th Total O), UCONN (96th Total O), Syracuse (106th Total O) and Rutgers (114th Total O).

Southern Miss is the flipside in that they have played a lot of bad defenses with the one exception coming against UCF in a 31-21 win. UCF ranks 12th in scoring D and 18th in total D. Other opponents like ECU, La Tech, Memphis, Tulsa, Houston and Kansas all rank 99 or worst in total D..

This will be a contrast of styles in that Louisville doesnt have the offense that So. Miss has been accustomed to seeing in CUSA but they put a better defense on the field than most of their opponents. It is probably best to leave this game alone since there are a lot of unkowns but if I had to go with a side I would take the points and Southern Miss. I think they can win this game straight up 34-31.

, but I looked at what So Miss did against So Carolina & LA Tech ( average defenses IMO with ball control offenses) and they only scored 14 & 13 in those games so I'm going under.

Taking Louisville -2.5. I think they finished the season strong and should be ready to fire under their first-year coach. I agree their defensive stats are misleading because of the poor offenses in the Big East, but Southern Miss's defense is awful.
