Mark Cuban and the BCS Playoffs???
Today I heard that Mark Cuban wants to bankroll hopefully the new College Football Playoff system.

I am all for it. Finally someone is stepping in to take charge and try to get rid of the BCS that needed to be done a long time ago.

The schools should know that they would stand to make a lot more money if this playoff system were in place. Granted the smaller schools would probably have a harder time making it to the playoffs, but it would truly show who is the best school in the country.

    Thoughts?

I read this article today as well. My only question is how you could privatize the playoffs but not the NCAA itself. I wish him the best of luck.

I personally think he should stick with the NBA, and not deal with a sport he knows nothing about. There are a lot of benefits to schools for having a bowl system. Also, a playoff will not always give you the best team... Look at NCAA basketball and all the high seeds that get upset. You may get the most deserving team as champion, but in a lot of these cases it is the "hottest" team and not the best team.

I think this is great. I think it just took someone with balls and money to get this thing rolling.

I don't know if Cuban can pull it off or not. But if the BCS schools get more money out it and there is a way to make it happen then I think it has a good chance. I don't know what will happen to the teams outside the playoffs. If those bowl games disappear it would be a tougher sell to those teams. But the big schools at the top have more control.

He owns the UFL and the channel that the UFL games are played on.

He must know SOMETHING about football.

He definitely knows something about making money and sees that there can be money made here.

15 years ago a company from Switzerland offered to form a playoff system for college football and guarenteed 5 times more money than the bowls make.... and they were turned down. NCAA doesnt care about the money that could be made. UNFORTUNATELY!

                Promises, promises.

Mark made most of his money from taking OK business ideas and finding a sucker to unload them on before he moved on to his next projects. If you do some research, you will find that all of his homegrown ideas that he sold tanked. If I am exaggerating by saying all, it is at least most.

Except for his Dallas Mavericks operation. That is a top-notch, A-1 operation. (Without him being a spoiled brat at the games, of course.)

But on to the main topic:
It won't happen. If they ever are compelled to do it by Congress, or are motivated internally, they would NEVER want Mark Cuban in the mix. Think of a smarter Dan Snyder mixed with a nerdier Jerry Jones. That's Mark. They don't want to be bothered with him.

I wish him well... the only way it'll ever happen is fan dollars in front of all the presidents' faces and lure them in with the understanding they're all guaranteed several million dollars, whether they make the playoffs or not. The playoff teams would make more - but as long as they all see a nice piece of the pie, then maybe...

The ONLY way a playoff will EVER happen is if fans stop going to the bowl games. Husker fans arent going to the bowl game this year and now they are suckering fans into buying tickets for active military in the San Diego area as charity. The idea is nice.... but I'd rather see the bowl lose money... if that's even possible.

Haha, and the bowls will never lose money. There will always be people that will go to the games.
