    Miami Targets 5 Candidates
Miami has pretty much narrowed down its search for a new head football coach to five coaches with one NFL coordinator as a wild card.

Dan Mullen (Ms St), if the Florida Gators are interested, he will be next Gator coach.

Randy Edsall (UConn), the guy wants the job and would take it in a minute.

Al Golden (Temple), played at Penn State and many think he might have a chance to replace Peterno.

Tommy Tuberville (Texas Tech), former defensive coordinator at Miami and knows the South Florida area well.

Kevin Sunlin (Houston), good coach but seems like a reach to me.

San Diego Chargers have a coach with strong ties to the Canes and could be a wildcard in this mix.

If any of you guys have heard anything different, please share it with us.

I'd sign Randy Edsal in a minute if i were them...the guy in a hell of a coach. People forget that when he started at Uconn they were D1-AA...now they're in a BCS bowl.

I also gotta wonder if they have any interest in Gus Malzahn? He would need to establish himself as a solid recruiter and they would also need a strong Defensive coordinator. But, with all of the offensive talent that comes out of the Florida recruiting pipeline, Gus could form Miami's offense into an unstoppable force.

I don't think any of these guys are the right coach to bring The U back to an elite level.

Miami needs a dynamic coach that understands the X's and O"s. No head coach should be oblivious when it comes to offense, Shannon was. He came up as a defensive mind and that never changed. Good man, couldn't handle the top job. Canes for life!!!!

Miami seems to have little or no interest in Mike Leach but he would be my first choice. The guy would win and win big and light up the ACC.

Can you imagine the offense he could put together with all those south Florida athletes.

Pelini is an interesting choice. He aparently wants no part of the Big 10, possibly because of the style of defense that he plays. Pelini's defense is undersized for the Big 10.

Leach is aparently not wanted by any major FBS school looking to replace their head coach. I think he has basically been blackballed because of his lawsuit against Texas Tech. He is too much of a risk for most schools, and he does not know the word "defense".

Edsalwould be an interesting choice, but the ACC is a big leap from the Big East. UConn did win the Big Eas this year, but lost to Temple. Miami is looking to return to the Top 5, not just to win 8-9 games a season.

Edsall graduates his players and wins 8 games a year. Miami just fired that exact type of guy. He isn't a good fit for Miami.

Reminds me of when Alabama wanted a new coach, they realized if they wanted to get big again they'd have to overpay for an established name. Maybe if Jack Del Rio leaves Jacksonville or something.

Actually it makes a ton of sense for Miami. With the athletes that Miami can recruit Pelini would have them playing for a national championship within 3 years.

It would just REALLY suck for Nebraska if he left......

Seems like it's going to be an outside hire out of left field.

I'd put money on none of the above.
