I would like to get some input on your thoughts with this game. I like Fresno St. personally, but I would like to hear some other opinions.

I know that Fresno is a tough place to play, but Hawaii went there and handled them.
Nevada is really good at home, but are hit and miss (ATS) on the road.
Fresno St. has a good passing game and this is Nevada's weak spot on defense.
Nevada has an explosive offense and Fresno has a sub-par defense overall.

Fresno's pass defense looks worse than their run defense.
They are allowing: 144 run yd/game 197 pass yd/game

You are probably right about Nevada being able to score at will though.
Do you think they will blow Fresno St. out at their place?

I live here in Fresno -- Some info for this weeks game: Fresno has some serious offensive line injuries going into this week even if their starters start the game it is doubtful the injured will finish, this list includes starting center with a bad ankle injury. Don't let the game against La Tech fool you, robbie rouse and the offense are not that good. It is not hard to make Fresno a one dimensional team as they lack experience at the wide reciever spot and rouse is soft up the middle. Colburne, while he wont make the big mistake, has been terrible against some bad defenses, i.e. San jose st, new mexico st and even worse against better defenses like hawaii. The strength of Fresno's defense is their ends, however, they are best when they can come hard off the edges and get to the qb. Against the pistol offense you must stay home or you get burned so something will give here. Either the option eats fresno state up or Kapernek will have all day to throw the ball and against fresno's bend dont break defensive style he could have big numbers. I think Nevada knows that Fresno doesn't have the fire power or the offensive consistency to keep up with them they will lay back and not give up the big play. Fresno will try to put up some long drives that eat clock and shorten the game but they have not looked good with that strategy this year. Nevada will score at will just like they did last week against idaho. Fresno might put some points on the board but not as many as Nevada will and fresno is not good from behind. Also, fresno's field is a fast track and thats what kapernek likes, he also is from the central valley and got passed over in the recruiting process by fresno and has a little bit of a chip on his shoulder so he will be focused here. ( by the way the player he got passed over for is no longer in school! good choice pat hill.) One issue with the game is that Fresno has a good record at home. I think this could help bettors here however, if this game was on a nuetral site Nevada would be favored by at least 10 points and you are giving up less than that because fresno is at home. Fresno has been blown out at home already this year by hawaii and that is a big game for fresno, lots of bad blood between the two teams. Don't let home field fool you and don't let the loss by nevada at hawaii get you worried about the road for nevada, alot of teams trip up when they make that long trip. There is a reason to consider fresno for those who want to, Fresno believes that if they win this game the still get a shot at boise and have a chance to win the WAC, something Pat Hill cant seem to do no matter how good his team is and the fans are desperate for this. In the past with some of his other teams Hill will get his team up for the big games and they would over achieve, this years team is weaker than he has had in the past and with the injuries I just don't see it working here. I am playing nevada pretty heavy here but am hoping they don't blow fresno state out by too much because I would like to see a favorable line when Illinois comes to fresno in a couple weeks. Illinoise has revenge on their mind after they lost at home to fresno last time when the lineman caught the tipped pass and scored on the last play of the game at Illinois. Good luck to all.

Fresno has announced that Backup RT Wentworth will start at RG. He played a lot of the La. Tech. game and graded out well from what I have been told. FS' AA OL Andrew Jackson is listed as a game time decision but I am pretty sure he is going to play. The target has been this game but Hill doesn't want to start him since he isn't planning on him playing the full game anyhow. That will be a big plus for the OL. The center Bernardi played last week and said his ankle was fine for pass blocking but did bother him for run blocking however Fresno State will be passing in this game. He has practiced all week and will likely start but surely be good to play if needed. His backup has played and started this year and has not shown a big dropoff.

Not really sure how your conclusions are decided on these thoughts. Don't YOU be fooled by the injuries to the receivers, running backs, and OL into thinking the offense is subpar. Also, being from Fresno you SHOULD know that the recent weeks are Pat Hill status quo. He loves to grind games out against inferior teams. That is why Fresno State has a poor ATS record. As an offense, this is the healthiest the team has been since Utah State in their 2nd game. FS started 3 freshman receivers in one of those games you mentioned and played them extensively in two others as their veteran receivers, Hamler, Evans, and Lyndsay, all missed multiple games or played sparingly in parts of some due to injuries. Clearly this affected not only the playbook but Colburn's timing as he didn't work out during the summer with the younger guys as much as the vets. Not to mention the OL issues along the way. Colburn looked much better last week with a full compliment of receivers and it's not so much the team they were playing but the accuracy of his throws. Last year Colburn threw for 377 yards against Nevada. A defense that is 108th in the Country this year against the pass as well

Actually FS is strong in the middle and ends. Logan Harrell (DT) and Chris Carter (DE) share the team lead with 9 sacks a piece. But the biggest thing to know is that not only did Fresno State change their defensive schemes because of what Nevada did last year (Hill said this week in his PC that last year's game was a "real eye-opening experience" to the coaches) but they have been working on the pistol since the Spring. They have ran Pistol formations in parts of practice every week and even started working on Nevada last week during La. Tech's prep week. Hill has called this week's contest "the test" to see if the new defensive schemes work. Obviously the defense is much improved versus the past few years with a #52 ranking TY on the season but they haven't faced the team that started the change.

Fresno State will do exactly what they were doing last year against Nevada. Throw on them early and often. Don't forget that the score became lopsided because Fresno State had 5 turnovers on Nevada's side of the field meaning they were moving the ball consistently. Even though their main cog in the offense last year (Ryan Mathews) missed most of the game.

Fast track? debatable. The condition of the field is average as there are too many dead spots in the grass throughout if you see upclose. That doesn't provide the best conditions to run on. It has made a difference in the past with speed teams. Kaep is 13 for 39 passing against Fresno State the last two years and his running has been below average (last year he got a late long TD run that beefed his numbers but the game was out of reach by then). He really hasn't been the reason FS has lost the past two seasons. It's been the inability to stop the dive and Tua but FS is much improved up the gut and got rid of an underperforming LB from last year. If you listened to the local radio station then you would have heard the host talk about him covering the Nevada game last week for TV and saying that in his opinion Tua was not 100% as he saw him limping to the sidelines a few times. That is big news as he is an upgrade over the other two backs (Ball and Mark).

This game is personal to Hill as he doesn't like Ault and they have battles on the recruiting front. From what I hear Aults a dirty recruiter and likes to tell lies to lure recruits but it has been getting back to Hill and he isn't too happy. I have a feeling that whatever bag of tricks Hill has up his sleeve are coming out tonight as opposed to being used against Boise State. Don't sleep on the fact that Nevada had a "kick-off" this week to settle on a kicker as both have been struggling. I believe they have missed their last three FG's inside 30 yards and with Hill's team being one of the best ST units in the Country especially blocking kicks it could be the difference in the game.

That player that Hill took instead of Kaepernick is now on the Colt's practice squad - Tom Brandstater. I'm not sure who you think it was but I know for 100%. Plus Kaepernick had 2 yards rushing in HS (crazy stat) and was a MLB prospect not as much a football prospect. Nevada has to take more chances recruiting, especially a few years ago and hit a jackpot.

Come on, you know Hill will have the team ready for Illinois. It's a BCS team at home. You even said it yourself, Hill gets his team fired up for big games and a BCS team in Fresno is always a scalp game for Hill. Even the losses over the years are mainly near misses.

With my knowledge of FS, with the RLM on the game, and with my knowledge of Nevada's history.....There is a pretty high percentage play and that is Fresno State ML. Take the points to be safe from the unforeseen.
