    Best Bet For Toledo-Northern Illinois
Running through the numbers with what I have seen this season and the best bet for tonight's Toledo-Northern Illinois game is not going to be available.....until halftime.

The best bet for tonight's game will come on the second half lines for the game. In the last five weeks, Toledo has given up 31 points in the second half (21 of those to Boise State) and Northern Illinois has surrendered 24 points in the last six weeks.

The ONLY thing that should scare you is the offense for each team in the back half. Toledo has put up 90 points in the second half of their last five games and NIU has 112 points in the third and fourth quarters of the last six.

Why do I pick the defensive side of this play? In Toledo's last five, it began the third quarter having been behind by a combined score of 98-46. The Rockets needed to explode to get back into these games. Three of the five games saw Toledo begin the second half down by two or more touchdowns. Northern on the other hand, outscored its opponents 106-72 in the first half over the same stretch.

My belief is that NIU racked up its points in the second half against teams that were significantly weaker (as evidenced by only one top 125 Sagarin performer--Temple--was in the group). Toledo's group had three teams inside the top 125 (four in the last six weeks).

How will it play out? Two solid rushing teams, two teams that can stop the rush and two teams that each control the ball for more than 30 minutes per game.

I will go with the UNDER in the SECOND HALF. Wish I could lay out a number--but I am guessing it will be 24.....

It's hard for me not to want to put a small play on Toledo +370. Game seems like it should be relatively close, and I believe the rockets could pull it off.

I might agree with you on that. The thing that holds me back is that Toledo has a quarterback (redshirt freshman) making his first collegiate start. The Rockets are solid, but have not really played anyone in the last three weeks (189 and 200-something in the Sagarin). At +370 it is a decent play (IMO)--but I would still cast a wary eye.....

I'm a 2-way parlay with Toledo +11 and Over 50, and a side bet of over 50 also.

            I wouldn't recommend a Toledo ML though.

Yep. That was about as horrific as it gets. Sixty-seven (67) second half points. Did not see that one coming. OTL, I am glad you hammered it. Who do you like tonight? Is there another gift awaiting us all?

I made money on the Over, but I lost just a little on the parlay. Why not hope for a little miracle and Toledo actually pumps? Oh well. I more than B/E.

Hold up dude, I hope that one was not aimed at me. I have seen more MAC football than almost anyone on here. Attended a school there for four years and then followed the league very closely for the next nine years. I have seen Toledo play, I can tell you where the dark patches are for night games at Eastern Michigan and where the puddles form first at Peden Stadium (Ohio University).

I can trace back to Brian McClure (BG in the '80s) through the Miami resurgence in the early 2000s and it hasn't all been TV. I have been to all of these venues and seen them go from grass, to turf and back to grass.

What I am getting at is that I thought the stronger D's would emerge last night. The offenses KILLED them. Misread. Turn the page. Live to fight another day.
