Cal -3 vs. Arizona St.

Being a Cal football follower (and sad to admit it fan), I didnt hesitate to take the gift that the oddsmakers gave last week when they got throttled by USC as expected and as they do almost every year. But Cal is a strange team..as consistently unfocused and bad as they are on the road, they are even more dominant at home. Since 2006, in games vs Pac 10 teams at home not against USC they are an astonishing 15-2 with an average margin of victory of 20.4 pts/game. Only 3 of those wins were by fewer than double digits. The 2 losses both came against the Beavers. Add that to their recent domination of ASU, winning 6 of last 7, and the -3 looks very good here. Look for the Bears to bounce back and win by 10 or more in this one.

And yes I know I have USC cheerleaders in my avatar. Can you really blame me?

Is there anything that Cal does well that could possibly exploit this years Arizona State team? I must admit Im usually quite drunk by the time Pac 10 games come on here on the east coast but on paper Arizona State seems to have played quite well against quality competition plus they are coming off of a bye week. I understand certain teams just have anothers number as the case is here with Cal and ASU but I see this game as a coin flip based on Cal's gross inconsistency.

Cal is just a completely different team at home. Their D steps up and their offense explodes...just like it did against UCLA 35-7, which was just after the Bruins beat Houston and Texas. I agree, on paper ASU is better than Cal this year, but games arent played on paper...theyre played by 20 year olds in front of fans. Cal runs the ball well with Vareen, and with rain in the bay area forecast, a solid ground game will play a role.

Fair enough. I'll personally stay away from this game but good luck. Looking into it further another thing you have going for you is Stephen Threet being turnover prone throwing for 11 TDs and 11 INTs. If the Bears do play the way the have been playing at home this year you are correct, it shouldnt be close.
