NCAA suspends, fines two UNC football players

Chapel Hill, NC (Sports Network) - The NCAA announced Wednesday the suspending and fining of North Carolina cornerback Kendric Burney and safety Deunta Williams for violations of NCAA agent benefits and preferential treatment rules.
Burney was suspended for six games, while Williams will miss four, and each must repay a portion of his benefits to a charity of his choice.

"We plan to appeal the length of the suspensions," said North Carolina athletics director Dick Baddour. "While I respect the NCAA process, I believe the penalties to be unduly harsh given the individual circumstances in these cases."

The benefits received by both players included trips around the country paid for by a person the NCAA considers an agent. Additionally, Williams had received preferential treatment when visiting a former North Carolina football player.

During the appeal process, both students will be ineligible to play for the Tar Heels.

ON UNC Light, You never can tell with the drama and people being out what kind of team is going to show up, but this is a good spot that will probably define the rest of UNC's season.

UNC is in shambles, them covering against LSU was a curse because LSU is very OVERRATED as always with Miles at the helm. There's a reason this line opened at a pick. Very big difference between the public prespective and the actual numbers

guys I HATE RUTGERS!! They ****** our chance at winning a National Title a few years back. That has no feel on this game. The Big East is by far the worst conference in football..... excluding the Sun Belt, MAC, and a couple more

North Carolina -1/2 1st half
-NC has failed to cover the spread at halftime in both games so far this season. Actually, NC has failed to cover the first half, game and 2nd half spreads in both games so far.

I realize North Carolina only has half a team, but they're still better than Rutgers. All they have to do is shut down Sanu and they got this game in the bag, Rutgers offense is anemic. Just take a look at the team stat comparisons between Rutgers and FIU last week. Also Rutgers starting running back Joe Martinek is listed as questionable and some of their O-Lineman are banged up as well. This is a must-win for Butch Davis, they can't start 0-3 with ECU and Clemson coming up, regardless of how many players are out.

The Rutgers/FIU game was close for a reason. FIU can play, they were up 20-6 on TEXAS A&M on the road going into the 4th quarter. Rutgers wins this game guys
