Keep in mind the Southern Miss Offensive Coordinator of the last 2 years (Darrell Wyatt) is now the Wide Receivers coach at Kansas. This should give Kansas a huge advantage in terms of information. All that being said USM is a MUCH better home vs. road team, so I would not look too much into the debacle vs. South Carolina earlier in the year. Southern Miss does have good foot speed and plays on the very fast Momentum Turf at home (same as New Orleans Saints). The short week with travel for Kansas is also an advantage for USM. Kansas should also be in a let down spot after the big home win vs. Georgia Tech.
Overall, I would lean Southern Miss but I think the play will be the Under. The oddsmakers should set the line very high but I think this will be more of a defensive battle than most realize with both teams trying to limit mistakes. The strength of the USM team is defense and the Kansas defense has also looked great this year. This is a "must win" for the USM coaching staff, and I look for a more conservative game plan.
I'm looking to play the 1h and full game UNDERS especially at 58 or more.
