    Colorado Names Quarterback
Tyler Hansen replaces Cody Hawkins as the new starting QB for the Buffaloes. Hawkins, a three year starter and head coach Dan Hawkins made the move after a 3-9 season and plenty pressure to win this season.

You're the starting QB and don't be looking over your shoulder. You are not on a short leash. What Hansen was told by Hawkins.

    Hansen offers extra dimension

    11:09AM ET
    Colorado Buffaloes

One of the reasons that Colorado coaches chose junior Tyler Hansen as the starting QB, says Neil Woelk of Boulder's Daily Camera, is his ability to gain yards on the ground. Woelk writes: "The Buffs can include Hansen's legs in the game plan, something they simply can't do if (Cody) Hawkins is the QB. Hansen's running ability has always been evident. But now the Buffs can design their attack with that ability in mind -- and opposing defenses will be forced to take that into account."
Over the past two season Hansen was a midseason call-up, so the team was rarely able to incorporate his unique skills into the game plan. Now offensive coordinator Eric Kiesau has even added some designed QB runs to the offense to take advantage of Hansen's mobility.
The Buffaloes' ground game may need an assist from Hansen because unexpected departures (Demetrius Sumler, Darrell Scott) have left questionable depth behind starter Rodney Stewart, who goes just 5-foot-6 and 185 pounds.

Hansen is the better QB, it's just taken pressure from up high to make sure the right guy is starting. If CU is down more than a TD at half sonny boy will replace him.

Cougar, a nice advantage for Hansen this season is he has 5 of his best friends returning on the O-line. The Buffs with 15 starters returning need to make some noise this season or daddy Hawkins is gone.

They should handle CSU fairly easily in the first game. Just my opinion.

The Colorado side is the stronger play in this game. You have a true freshman starting at QB, playing his first ever NCAA game, on the road, with a rebuilt offensive line. This spells disaster offensively. I can understand your thought on the UNDER, and I'm not saying it is a bad play, but I think the side cashes easily here. Colorado should be a lot more consistent and experienced this year.

When Hawkins was at Boise State they won just like they have since he was there. Everybody thought he was a great coach. Now he sucks. Boise is a better program than Colorado but they still aren't a top 5 football team.

Boise is certainly a Top 5 program. Name ANY tem that beats them at home. You can't. There is none. As far as the Colorado QB question goes, neither QB is any good. It is a question of choosing between the lesser of two evils.

Half the teams in the top 25 would be a top 5 program with that weakass WAC schedule. How tough is it to get up for 2 games each year?
