I may be looking forward to this game more than any other at least from a fans perspective. Should be an exciting game. Here we have the new look Red Raiders who bring in veteran coach Tommy Tubberville going up against June Jones' explosive SMU team. In my opinion, Tubberville was brought in to add the one thing this TT team was missing, DEFENSE! While I have no doubt that he will make an improvement to their defense, I think it'll take 2-4 years to really adopt an entirely new concept of defense. While I'm sure TT will continue to use their successful spread offense, I do believe that their playcalling be a bit more conservative than that of Mike Leach.
While its obvious this TT team has more talent than SMU, SMU is coming off of a great second season under Jones that concluded in an upset victory over Nevada in their bowl game. The strength of this SMU, like any other June Jones team, is their passing. However, I feel the x-factor last season for them was their rush D. Unfortunately, I don't think that's going to help them against Tech.
I think SMU +14 is the play here. While they will struggle to stop TT, I don't see Tech stopping SMU either. I think 14 points is way to much to give a team who has the scoring abilities of SMU.
What's your take on this game?
