I could never figure out why Hawaii is in the Mountain West where they should be able to attract top recruits and play in the Pac10.You would think that kids would flock to Hawaii.Maybe the weather and everything else is too good whereit would be a distraction for them.Hell, travel is a part of it but what 18 year old kid wants his parents coming to every practice and game.
Hawaii should be in Pac 10 &big time football program.

#2Hawaii, een with June Jones, has never had a BCS Competitive program. Look what happens to them when they play BCS teams. In the past 5 years, their record is 5-11. Then add on all of the other sports, and Hawaii rarely has a competitive team.Comment -

#4Hawaii would be a 6-7 win team at best in the Pac 10 maybe. They haven't proved much since June Jones left.Comment -

#5Even with June Jone they didn't deserve to go to a BCS championship game. that season had REALLY (overtime) close games with some mid level WAC teams and they were losing 21-0 against washington (who was the worst pac-10 team at the time) in the first quarter at home. hawaii would be competitive in softball, waterpolo, both men's and women's volleyball, and to a lesser extent baseball and MAYBE tennis. but football and basketball (the two cash sports), no way in hell.Comment -

#8Exactly, and you are so far from your family. They cant even see half of your games. Plus the travel schedule is horrid for players. You spend weeks at a time in hotels across the west coast, and have to travel as far as LA Tech.Comment -

#10There was also a problem that games played in Hawaii do not count towards the minimum 6 needed for bowl eligibility, or was it changed?Comment -

#14With all football programs it all comes down to is MONEY. Hawaii didn't charge an athletic fees towards tuition of students. But, it will come into effect this fall semester of $50.00 per semester, which is peanuts compared to what other universities charge (upwards of 150 per semester). When June Jones was in Hawaii his recruiting budget was $50,000, now compare that to BCS schools or MWC for instance. For mens sports there recruiting budget is $190,000 (all Mens sports) it's one of the smallest in NCAA D1.
With the talent we were putting on the field they did beat purdue, oregon st, arizona st, alabama, michigan st, BYU when ranked 5th in nation, northwestern. Now what does these schools have that
Hawaii doesn't have...MONEY. My opinion is "if" hawaii had BCS money they could put out a competitive team.Comment -

Now other sports Hawaii did make it to softball college world series and baseball won the WAC. Both Volleyball teams made it to the final fours, water polo team was ranked high as 4. I'm just saying money has alot to do with what kind of talent you can get to your school.Comment -

#24if I was a recruit I would rather play in Hawaii than most NCAA programs. Living in Honolulu over places like Austin, Manhatten Kansas, Pullum Washington, small town Virginia.
I get the idea that many small town football programs are great on tradition and history. But the majority of these players aren't bright enough to realize this until years and years after their playing days.Comment -
