Lloyd Carr to retire after the season?
I've been hearing a lot of rumors about this actually happening after that App St. loss, but this it looks like the rumors might just be reality after reading this.

Three separate sources indicate that Carr has made his decision to retire official and people around the athletic department are being told. The formal announcement will come after the Ohio State game, possibly at the Monday press conference, possibly a day or two later.

They say this every year, and every year he comes back....Good chance he'll be back next year.

Beating OSU would make it easier to come back.

I know they say this every year BB, but this time I really think its true. Even if he beats Ohio State I still think he's gone.

Well, if you're an OSU fan then it goes without saying that you'll miss Carr, just as I, being a UM fan, am still devastated by the Buckeyes canning good ol' John Cooper.

I think in reality the perception of Carr is a bit harsh when you look at his career resume at UM - 5 Big 11 titles, 97 Nat'l championship, 6-7 career mark against OSU. However, at a school like UM it's all about "what have you done for me lately," and losing 6/7 to OSU immeasurably taints his legacy. And Herbstret and others saying that him being remembered for not being able to beat Tressel being unfair is ridiculous. At UM you're judged by what you do against one school and one school only - OSU.

Carr isn't doing Les Miles any favors by announcing his decision this soon.

                  rjt,

                  You're 100% right about that.

Now, every press conference won't be about LSU's next opponent or winning the national championship, it will be about...Have you been in touch with Michigan? Are you interested in the Michigan job? Are you going to take the Michigan job? When are you going to take the Michigan job???

Will make it much more difficult on the Bayou Bengals,

If Lloyd Carr announces Monday he has no respect for whatsoever for Les Miles. Its very important your successor does the very best he can before he takes over and the distractions this will cause will be unbelivable. But its just like a Carr move, hell he hasn't made a good decision this year yet..

There's been a lot of talk about how Carr's relationship with Miles isn't particularly strong, as evidenced by the fact that immediately following being bypassed for the UM job in favor of Carr in 1995, Miles immediately bolted UM to take a job as offensive coordinator at Okie State, not exactly a step up. Carr announcing his resignation so soon can be seen as proof that he doesn't want Miles to be his successor, as Miles will now be hounded with incessant talk about the UM opening as he attempts to lead LSU to the national championship. Regardless, if UM wants Miles, and all indications are that they do, he WILL be the next coach at Michigan.

Carr is a good coach. nice guy, easy to root for, good motivatior, good recruiter, very loyal to Michigan.

However, most of his success came early on in his career. He hasn't won a big game in years. It is clear to me that when it comes to the Xs and Os, the game has passed Lloyd Carr by.....
