Prep football team piles up 72-point first quarter
I know it's not exactly college or pro football here fellas, but this one I felt was newsworthy enough to at least deserve mention.

I've never heard of a team at any level rack up 72 points in one quarter of organized football. Thats just insane !!!

Kansas team scores 72 in first quarter; wins 86-0

SMITH CENTER, Kan. -- Smith Center scored 72 points in the first quarter of a high school football game Tuesday night on the way to an 86-0 win over Plainville, according to a report in the Salina, Kan., Journal.

Smith Center forced six turnovers in the first quarter as it racked up what is believed to be a record for points in a quarter by a high school team, the paper reported. The previous record was 66 by Prescott, Ariz., in 1925.

The defending state champion has outscored its opponents 640-0 so far this season, including a 69-0 win over Plainville earlier this year.

And people jumped on Belichick and the PATS for scoring 52 in a game.

Maybe Notre Dame should think about diving into the Salina KS. Prospect market?

I actually played against this team in high school during the playoffs. They are a 2A team (Kansas goes from 1A to 6A). They are a bunch of tough farm boys on the line and then they always seem to have a few sprinters for running backs. Definitely one of those towns that produces a lot of talent. I remember being a sophomore playing cornerback and had to go against these guys. we ended up getting beat badly and I have never played against anyone who hit so hard. I'm glad those days are over!!!

Why aren't the same whiners complaining that the Pats are running it up and showing no sportsmanship jumping all over this story?

In Connecticut that coach probably would have been suspended. See link http://www.boston.com/sports/footbal..._school_routs/

Nowadays too many people are so "touchy feely" about competition. I know one school where they banned a teacher from putting stickers on the papers of kids who did well, because it might make the kids who didn't get stickers feel bad.

I say as long as it is a team that I have money on running up the score thats ok with me... THe better chance they have that a back door cover beats them...
