Really like that Arizona State play VIA. I think Wash State is decent but Arizona State is just burying everybody in sight right now. I will be betting AZ STATE is some form or fashion this weekend.

          Tulsa -3 @ UTEP

Fair warning up front: when a line seems way off, like I deem this one, it's for a reason that I don't see. I'm worried about this line because I had Tulsa -12 in my handicapping. I'm only worried because when my line differs that much from the books, I'm missing something. Anyway, Tulsa averages 552 yards of offense a game, compared to UTEP's 305. Both defenses give up tons of yards, with UTEP allowing 400 yards per game and Tulsa allowing 482. That "482" number could worry you, but remember, Tulsa allowed 694 yards to BYU and 553 to Oklahoma. Is UTEP in the same world as those offenses? Hell no. UAB, whose offense is around 20 yards better per game than UTEP's, put up 400 yards. That means UTEP should hit right around 380ish on Saturday. Tulsa should put up around 480 yards of offense on UTEP.

Also, keep in mind 2 more things. UTEP averages only 16.6 minutes for TOP per game. That means Tulsa is going to have the ball A TON. They are going to exploit a UTEP pass defense that allows 273 yards per game (Tulsa throws for 371 per game). The other thing to keep in mind: Tulsa's run defense is awful (203.8 per game), and UTEP has a decent run game. However, UTEP's passing game throws for only 166 yards per game, so Tulsa won't be tested in the pass game (where Tulsa's defense again stinks). I bet the Hurricanes give tons of attention to stifling the run game, and making UTEP throw it.

Arizona State -8.5 @ Washington State

Every week I print off the covers.com print sheets of the stats, and highlight every big mismatch. When I see Team X averaging 180 rush yards/game and Team Y allowing 160 rush yards/game, I highlight that. Well, this game is one of five this week, and it's line is the 2nd smallest of all 5 (the others are Troy/FIU, CMU/BSU, Neb/Missou, SDSU/CSU). Washington State allows 169 rush yards per game while ASU puts 173; WSU allows 288.4 while ASU puts up 275. WSU has a great passing offense, throwing for over 296 yards per game, but ASU allows less than 200 per game. Normally, I might be worried about ASU's first true road test (@ Stanford? haha), but Erickson will want to beat WSU badly, and next week ASU is back at home for Washington, so no look ahead here. Keep in mind that WSU allowed 596 yards to Arizona, over 500 to USC, and 480+ to Wisconsin ... and ASU's offense is better than all 3 of them.

              Arkansas State -3 @ ULM

My neutral handicapping came out with ASU -17, so a big gap here. ASU is going to run allllll over ULM, as they allow over 200 yards rushing per game. I didn't highlight this at the time, but ULM also allowed 287 pass yards per game, and ASU's Leonard is a dynamic passer. ASU could easily score 45 here. The one aspect that could keep this even closer is that the Indians allow 144 rush yards per game, and ULM runs for 227. But much like the Tulsa/UTEP idea, ASU can load the box and not worry about ULM's putrid pass game burning them. ASU has traveled to Austin and Knoxville, so HFA is basically nothing more than 1 or 2 points.

Not on any of those sides, but I do like the UNDER 63 in that Arizona State at Washington State game.

                Good luck VA.
