University of Oregon going downhill fast
Whats up with OU, first RB Lagerret Blount gets suspended for the 2009 season and now half the squad is going to miss at least 1 game next season. QB Masolli is out for the 2010 season. It seems like Oregon is done for next year.

Once again, Chip Kelly shows how gutless he is. His suspension of Masoli was obvious. It should have been permanent. His suspension of James for one game (the opener against New Mexico) for beating his girl friend shows just how desperate Oregon is to win at any cost. Oregon now becomes an also-ran in the Pac 10. USC and Oregon State now head the list of contenders.

If I were an Oregon alum, I'd want Kelly shown the door. The guy is making a mockery of the school.

The loss of Masoli is huge. A losing season could now be in the cards for the Ducks.

As a whole though, anyone else think that the Pac-10 will be one of the best conferences in the nation this year? Save for Washington State, and now Oregon, there are a lot of damn-good teams.

I think that the Pac 10 willimprove fromtheir rather disaml showing of last year, but may actually be a bit weaker. USC will be very strong, but we do not know what is going to happen to them when the NCAA deals with them. Oregon State has a habit of losing games early, and must go to TCU and Boise in September. Cal is, well Cal. No one knows what is happening with that program. Stanford loses Gerhart, and is setting a record for the most assistant coaches never to have coached in a game in one season. Washington should show a lot of improvment, especially with Locker returning, but Locker must stay healthy. UCLA? Who knows? They had a great recruiting class, but Neuheisel has done very little there in 3 years. The two Arizona schools are anyone's guess. Oregon we know about, and Wazzu has a long ways to go.

Oregon hasw capable backups, but they are not good enough to win with shcedule, having games at Tennessee, Cal, USC, and Oregon State. We will get a lot better read on the Pac 10 when we find out what happens to USC.

I think Oregon quickly became one of the worst teams in the Pac-10 this offseason. Washington State will win more games than the Ducks.

nate costa (sr.) was starting over masoli before the knee injury hes really good and understands the system. darron thomas is fighting for the job hes legit he'll get a ton of reps this spring and summer hes legit hq not just a big time recruit those look like some good options to me at qb. still some talent at Rb kenjon barner and james after he misses the new mexico game. Im still sure chip will have the ducks scoring 30-40 points a game again. @ rocky top that 2nd week is going to be a tough one no doubt but its not like they cant win those games against those 4 the offense will be okay its the defense i'll be watching this spring.

"We have enough playmakers at the other spots that the quarterback in this offense does not have to be the focal point,'' Kelly said. "He’s got to be more like a point guard in basketball and distribute the ball to the right guy at the right time.'' - chip kelly (talking about costa & thomas)

I am not sold on the offense at all. What little passing game they had is now gone. As I recall, Costa was not very good at all. I agree that the defense is going to be questionable, bu it always is at Oregon. The losses of DE Tukufu and CB Thrumond III is going to hurt. I think the real question becomes how much has this team lost after last years debacle in the Rose Bowl and this year's off field disaster. We had Oregon as the #1 team in the Pac 10, and a Top 10 team (though not as high as most had them), but now all of that is gone. At best, they are even with USC and Oregon State in the Pac 10, and certainly not a Top 10 team nation wide.

Offense will be a big drop off this year.. but it seams they always figure out a way to be a decent team.

I think Oregon will be a good team, but certainly not a Top 10 caliber team. Their game on 9/11 against the equally depleated Tennessee squad in Knoxville should be very interesting. Call it the "Who Do We Have Left To Play" Bowl.
