The two sides are close and rumor has it UGA will announce him as the new Coordinator Monday. TideSports.com report that he was offered the job. I don't have a link, just trust me.

Not hardly the source for solid information, but David Pollack says it's a done deal.
According to sources, Smart has received a written contract from UGA but has neither signed it nor made a decision regarding the opening. The offer is believed to be well in excess of Smart’s current contract at Alabama, under which he earns just under $400,000 in base pay per year.

Two years ago when Mark Richt went to Atlanta to watch his son play in the clemson game and he asked Nick Saban if it would be ok and Nick said your his father its your place to be there. From that point on the two had mutual respect for each other......I worried about this 2 weeks ago because Geo had not named a DC yet and that is paramount for recruiting. I applaude the way in Geo handled this, they waited untill after Bama's bowl game......I had a feeling he would go back to his alma-matter....I hope he stays, if not then Geo becomes a favorite to challenge for the SEC east.

This is huge for Georgia. The Dawgs have to rebuild their DL, but showuld be solid in the LB department and in the secondary. UGA will be loaded on the offense if they can find a good QB. This team can definately challeng Florida in the East, and challenge for the SEC crown. Georgia has a huge schedule break. No 'Bama or LSU. Arkansas, Tennessee, and Ga.Tech at home. The rest of the non-con schedule is easy. I am looking forward to a big season from UGA.

they already have 2 highly touted QBs on the roster, both redshirted last year
Aaron Murphy seems to be the favorite for the starting postion this year.
How he handles the pressure on this level is yet to be seen though.
Rennie Curran announced his eligibilty for the NFL draft yesterday.
So thats a big hit for the linebackers

Yes it is a big hit, but one that UGA should be able to recover from. It is very early, but so far, our research indicates that the SEC will be much tougher in 2010 than they were in 2009. Oddly enough, that means that they may not get a team into the NC game. With teams like Ohio State, Boise State, and TCU playing doable schedules, two undefeated teams will probably play in the Championship game. Boise plays two good non-con games. AT home against Oregon State, and a critical game in Landover Md. vs Va.Tech. I think that it would be very difficult for an SEC team to go undefeated.

Smart has declined the offer and staying at Bama.
Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart is staying with the national champion Crimson Tide, spurning a weekend offer from SEC rival Georgia, according to a source close to the coach.
Smart signed a term contract and then backed out of it.

Bama flashed some dough in his face. Oh well, back to the drawing board. Wonder if Mark Richt has any college room mates left that can coach a defense?

shitty IMO for Smart to sign a terms contract and then backout, guess he was just using it as leverage to get more $ from Bama.
next in line is Grantham. Currently the Cowboys DL coach.
I know nothing about him
