    Play of the day
The Bobcats went 9-4 (7-1, conference), with losses to UConn, Tennessee, Kent State and Central Michigan, that last one for the conference championship, holding the powerhouse Chippewas to just 20 points in a 20-10 defeat. Otherwise, they blew through the opposition with a balanced run-pass attack and a defense capable of stepping up, especially in the red zone. Marshall was 6-6, finishing in the middle of the conference. Losers of three of their last four, Marshall were last seen being stampeded at UTAP, 52-21.

The Bobcats’ offense is led by a solid quarterback in Theo Scott and he’ll have a deep wide receiver corps at his disposal to throw to. Marshall ranked 99th in the nation in passing yardage allowed, so they’ll be vulnerable to exploitation based on that fact alone.
The mood of these teams heading into the contest is reflected by the excitement of their fanbase about playing this game.Ohio has sold all of its ticket allotment, while Marshall will be lucky to sell 35% of their ticket allotment. This almost palpable malaise from the usually rabid Thundering Herd fans is due to the messy coaching situation and inexperience of the team.

Ohio would have been the right side of this game even if the Marshall coaching situation hadn’t become such a fiasco. They’re simply the better team top to bottom, and have an offense that can exploit the Herd’s defensive weakness against the pass. With the mess caused by the coaching situation, they’re an even stronger position.

Nice write up. I passed on the game for two reasons. First, coaching situations are very hard to figure out. Wecond, I have absolutely no interest in the game at all, and do think a game like this should even be played. GL on your wager though.

Ohio def the pick. Marshall has been sloppy lately. And Ohio should cover without any problems.

                          North Carolina/Pittsburgh

Both teams have defenses which can run and hit, but Pitt has an edge in the running game with the elusive Dion Lewis, who rushed for 1640 yards on 297 carries. If the Tar Heels can't contain him - and nobody has yet - that opens up the passing game for underrated Bill Stull, who could have a future at the next level. Pitt's defense should be able to force a turnover or two from QB TJ Yates, who threw 14 picks and was sacked 21 times. The Heels will have plenty of support from a partisan fan base, but lack of protection will be their undoing.

                          Boston College/USC

This game is being played in San Francisco, which just happens to be the same state USC calls home, and this will probably be more of a home game type feel for the Trojans, but I have a feeling BC will come with some fight. This IS a big game for them, and a chance to prove they belong with the big boys. One thing USC has learned, every time they suit up, they get their opponent’s best – and I like the Eagles to give the Trojans exactly that.
I think BC will have some success running the ball and keeping USC off the field. The Trojans have played with a lot of emotion in their BCS Bowls, but how motivated are they for this one? I think USC wins, but their struggle to cover (3-9 ATS) continues.
