UNC vs. Pitt

I like UNC in this as well. Won't lay too much but I do think they are the pick.

I like UNC as well. It's going to be a home game for them. Plus, Pittsburgh had their eyes on a bigger bowl. When a team is disappointed in its bowl, it usually comes out flat (see Oregon State). Davis will have the Tar Heels motivated and ready to play.

This is what I hate about bowl games. College kids are hard enough to predict during the regular season, but when there is nothing on the line it is almost impossible to predict who is going to come out swinging and who just wants to get back on the bus and go home.

Both of these teams lost to NC State, which is hard to believe. The key thing is will Pitt be motivated to play off heartbreaking losses to West Va. and Cinci to end the season?

Despite the letdown of a smaller bowl, I have to think they will be ready to play in this one. Although I like Davis over Wannstandt, I think Pitt has a better team, and despite letting over 40 to Cinci, Pitt's defense actually played pretty well in that game.

I'm leaning on the Under
Pitt is only allowing 20ppg and is ranked 21st in scoring D
North Carolina is only allowing 16.9 ppg and is ranked 13th in scoring D

Makes me think points will be at a premium
I'm also leaning on UNC they are good against the Run Pitts best asset.
UNC ranked 9th in rushing yards allowed only allowing an average of 92.8

UNC +the points. UNC wants this game more. They should be hyped and ready to play coming off a loss to rival NC State, as opposed to Pitt who will come out flat after a heartbreaking loss and who was orignally eyeing a better bowl.

No sense taking points because if they show up, they win the game and if they don't, they get blown out.

I think they show up at "home", and Pittsburgh is disheartened after blowing BCS berth by losing last 2 games after 9-1 start.

I have UNC +125. Took it over a week ago. I think that UNC has several advantages. First, the crowd will be pro UNC. Second, Pitt is here instead of the Orange Bowl. That has to negatively affect them. Pitt lost their last two games, knocking then all the way down to this bowl game. A win against West Va. and they are playing in the Gator Bowl. UNC won 4 out of their last 5 games. I also think that UNC's defense can be dominant here. Pitt is very one dementional, relying on the run. UNC's defensive strength is the run. Finally, all things being equal, I have to go with Butch Davis over Wanny.

I actually go with Pitt here. T.J. Yates sucks for sure and I like Bill Stull. Also Pitt's RB Deon Lewis or some shit like that is an absolute stud.

UNC will shut Lewis down and I don't trust Stull to win a game by himself.

The smart/popular choice appears to be UNC. However, I'm a contrarian... I'm going with tha Panthers -2 for two units.
