Nevada junior running back Vai Taua has been ruled academically ineligible for the Dec. 24 Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl, the university announced Saturday.

Taua, who did not travel with the team, is the Wolf Pack's leading rusher with 1,345 yards and10 touchdowns. Nevada has the nation's top rushing offense.

"I'm upset and disappointed that Vai didn't fulfill his obligations as a student-athlete," Nevada coach Chris Ault said. "He has let his team down and I will evaluate his future with the program after the bowl game. Our focus now is on the upcoming game and our program is moving forward in that direction."

Nevada had three 1,000-yard rushers. Sixth-year senior Luke Lippincott, who will start in place of Taua, has 1,034 yards and nine touchdowns. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick has 1,160 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns.

      FROM CBS SPORTS

--Sixth-year senior RB Luke Lippincott (toe) will not play in the Wolf Packs bowl game. Lippincott suffered the injury against New Mexico State and was limited to just one carry for six yards against Boise State. Lippincott, one of three Nevada rushers to gain more than 1,000 yards this season, will undergo surgery.

Abit of a tempting middle here, but middling 14 is not a recommended play. Nevada has lost two out of their three offensive stars. If anything, that indicates that under 73 points may be a decent play here.

                      SMU v Nevada

                      Hi Guys

I'm an Aussie visiting Hawaii. I have ZERO idea about College Football but I'm going to the game on Thursday with my two sons. Now here's a challenge:

Give me some some wisdom so that I can at least engage in some meaningful dialogue with whoever I will be sitting next to at the game!

                      Cheers!

                      Papa Stefano

                        Heres a lil insight,

SMU hooks up with Nevada in a matchup featuring the highest point-spread differential of all 34 bowl games.

The Wolf Pack was favored by over two touchdowns last week but the line has since dropped to 12.5 after leading rusher Vai Taua was declared academically ineligible. Taua's loss wouldn't be quite so dramatic if Luke Lippincott was available, but the other running back to pick up 1,000 yards will also miss the contest due to a toe injury.

The Nevada rushing attack that led the country in yards-per-game and yards-per- carry will now be without two of the team's three 1,000-yard rushers.

On the other side of the ball, the Wolf Pack ranked 119th nationally in pass defense allowing 31 passing touchdowns, the highest number in the entire country. SMU owns a 55%-45% pass-run ratio so look for the Mustangs to exploit the 'Pack's major weakness.

SMU's June Jones is very familiar with the state of Hawaii as he was the Warriors head coach for nine years. He never lost to Nevada when coaching Hawaii (4-0), while the Wolf Pack is 1-5 in its last six trips to Honolulu. In addition, Chris Ault's squad is 0-3 in its last three bowl games, and the 'Pack has never won a bowl game by more than seven points in school history.

ehh your about three days late on this one
                          +15 to +12 or so
shouldnt make much difference though Smu cant handle the run in any circumstance ,I watched em in the navy game here everyone in the stadium knew where they were running it
Nevada seems to have a pretty good qb them selves
After losing to boise and actually out scoring them the last three quarters of the game
a qb that lost out to the heisman , and finally seeing SMU is just a shady team thats just happy to be at a bowl game , it will be very over whelming for them
the line change may be enough to have me like Nevada in this one ,
