Rutgers -2.5 (-110) to win $100
Interesting how perceptions on teams change so quickly from week to week. Early in the year people laughed at how pathetic Rutgers was after a nationally televised loss at home 47-15. The team that beat them? Cincinatti. At the time it was an embarrassing loss looking back now the loss doesn't look as bad. The other loss? To Pittsburgh 24-17. After that they have solid wins vs NC State and @ Connecticut. This Rutgers team is still being overlooked in my opinion. Tom Savage has been doing his job protecting the ball (8 TD/1 INT). Rutgers has been relying on the defense lately and they have stepped up to the challenge allowing just 13 ppg since the Cincinatti loss. Rutgers seems to have a thing for playing well at home in these Thursday night games an I expect them to step up to the challenge yet again.
Interesting to note South Florida has the same record as Rutgers at 6-2. The two losses? Cincinatti and Pittsburgh. Two teams on very similar paths here and with Matt Grothe out this matchup moves even more into Rutgers favor. Rutgers plays the run extremley well and struggles against teams that can move the ball through the air with a good QB (Tony Pike). They allow just 3.3 ypc on the ground and if South Florida wants to have a chance they need to establish the run. Should be a very hostile enviornment and I think Rutgers is getting the value in this line.
