Throw up those crossbones - Why to take Nebraska; period.
As I type this, the rain has begun in Colombia. I'm reporting live from Omaha, Nebraska and there is no place on earth I’d rather be. If you don't think the Huskers are ready for rain, heavy or not; you're sadly mistaken. Omaha is about an hour away from Lincoln. I’ve lived in this state my entire life. In both cities we have some of the most extreme weather in the country, on both ends of the spectrum. The winters bring record-breaking cold and blizzards, spring hosts some of the worst tornadoes in the country, and the summers scorch with humidity you can drink. Sallyboys need not apply. Tonight, there will be blood.

The weather certainly won't do anything but open up Nebraska’s offense. Why? I’ve played college ball and those who suffer most are the defensive linemen and the poor bastards running out to establish coverage. When you’re standing and start running, it isn’t that difficult to keep going. When you’re down in your stance and can’t get a decent footing to plant; you’re screwed. I’ve watched both teams in person this year, several times each. From the spring red and white game, to Virginia Tech, I was there. The Cornhuskers are ready to bang. Let’s get down to the skinny…

We're looking at a Missouri squad that struggled against Nevada and only beat Bowling Green by one touchdown. The Huskers went to Virginia, took Tech to the house, and lost after a last minute gamble paid off big for the Hokies. A few regrets? Sure, but there was no shame in that game for the Big Red. The University of Nebraska has been in rough shape the past few years, but quite literally, things have changed. The Huskers are coming off of a bye week and they’re hungry. As far as rumors of sickness? They are all a crock. I just got back from campus less than an hour ago from a gathering of sorts. I won’t go into details, but I assure you; everyone on the team is healthy, fired up, and ready to go.

Am I biased in this matchup? Sure. Is there a doubt in my mind that Nebraska will not only cover but pick apart Missouri? Absolutely not. I usually keep my business and pleasure separate. This is a rare instance in which my bias, logic, and money cross paths. Tonight, they’ll party together. I suggest you join me.

Thanks for the writeup. I love Nebraska... I see Missouri being quite overrated. Good luck to you

The home dog seems to always bite on these Thursday night games. Neb. seems to be the better team, but I wouldn't go large here. Anyway, good luck kompulsive.

Excellent write up bud, I hammered the f*** out of Nebraska myself on Monday night as soon as the line came out. And now with this weather - a big advantage in the trenches goes to the Huskers. They are the more physical team here.

I really think the Under is the play here. NU game plan should be to keep the ball on the ground as much as possible ... long sustained drives to keep the ball away from Mizz. NU I think realizes that is this turns into a shoot-out they are not going to keep up.

Just not sure what to make of the flu issue with NU ... that can play a HUGE factor here.

Would I bet on it? No. There are already flood warnings in Colombia. I'm not putting money on any over under for this game. This may sound odd, but in this situation I look at it like racing. The rain means you can floor it while the other guy drives slow, but the potential to lose control increases ten fold. The final score could be all over the place as far as I'm concerned, but I do know the Huskers will cover.

Recalling my time playing in this exact weather, that is the best metaphor that came to mind.

Forecast looks AWFUL for tonight...thunder with a ton of rain...pretty unpredictable game...too bad, seems like an EASY call in perfect conditions...I wonder how much this will affect the game...I'm still going OVER 44 I think.

The only problem I see here is the fact that everywhere I read and everyone I talk to is hammering the hell out of Nebraska and yet there's little or no line movement. I think one big play will be the difference in this one and that play goes to the home team.
Good write up but my money is going on the home team who will exploit coverage problems in poor weather. Mizzou +3 is the play for me but goodluck to all.

Honestly, I hope the weather gets even worse. I hope the mud buries the Tigers up to their necks. To me, the bottom line is this....

I don't know anyone "hammering" anything. I'm not taking this game as someone who bets every single night and is just making another pick. I usually bet about two games per week. However, I've dissected this match up from many different angles. I've been to most of the games that both teams have played. People favoring Missouri have backed their choices only with statistics that aren't relevant to the current Nebraska lineup. If you're playing that angle, then consider this: the last Thursday night game that Missouri played was in 1992 and they lost by 6 to Colorado.

These types of statistics are about as useful as paying an orangutan to count wood chips and no smarter than a boot full of hair.

...or if you want to play the numbers game......20 out of the last 22....thats Missouri's record at home or.....how about the last time they lost to a Big 12 North team.....uh 2004. Now that's an angle.

Again, not relevant to this play. It's not the NFL. Some folks seem to think college teams have the same players every year...scary.

Either way, take your pick and we'll see how that works out for you. The Tigers will lose by more than 3 points. The fun part is going to be watching gruesome the bloodbath gets.

What's 'scary' is when people get offended when they post on a public forum and take offense to replies that are opinion. I did take my pick and responded with goodluck to all. By the way numbers is the only way to actually win in this business of gambling, otherwise we'd all just bet off of luck and gut instinct. Numbers are ALWAYS relevent. It's going to be a great game either way. Again goodluck to all.

I think we all agree that Va tech is better than missouri , this is a copy paste from http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.d...CLID=204797675 i beleive it says it all , Missouri will be out classed tonight , read further an impressive game summary
In a game featuring two of the best special teams units in college football, Nebraska's Alex Henery took center stage by booting a career-high five field goals, but Tyrod Taylor's 11-yard touchdown pass to Dyrell Roberts with 21 seconds left allowed the No. 13 Hokies to escape with a 16-15 win over the No. 19 Huskers at Lane Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Playing in front of 66,233 fans and an ABC television audience, the Huskers got off to a slow start in the first quarter but controlled the action until Virginia Tech's final drive.
Henery's five field goals appeared to be enough to give the Huskers their first road win over a top-20 team since 1997, while also giving NU its first win without scoring a touchdown since beating Kansas State, 3-0 in Manhattan, on Nov. 27, 1937.
But Taylor, who had been stymied by a relentless Blackshirt defense throughout the game, connected with Danny Coale on an 81-yard pass with 1:11 left to take the Hokies to the NU 3. Matt O'Hanlon made a game-saving tackle on the play, then registered an eight-yard sack of Taylor on Virginia Tech's next snap to take the Hokies back to 2nd-and-goal from the NU 11. The Blackshirts blitzed again and forced Taylor to throw the ball away to set up 3rd-and-goal. With the clock running and pressure coming, Taylor scrambled for several seconds before finding Roberts in the end zone for the winning score with 21 seconds left.
Virginia Tech improved to 2-1 with the victory, while Nebraska slipped to 2-1 on the young season.
"It's disappointing we lost the game. We just didn't make enough plays to win," Nebraska Coach Bo Pelini said. "I take my hat off to Virginia Tech. They made enough plays to win and we didn't. We didn't do what was necessary to win the football game. We had a lot of opportunities and we didn't capitalize on them. It's a shame."
Virginia Tech Coach Frank Beamer, who is the third-winningest active coach behind Joe Paterno and Bobby Bowden, said Nebraska was impressive, especially on defense.
"I think you give Nebraska credit. People thought I was blowing smoke when I said they were back, but I think they are back. That is a tough way for those guys to lose, but I really believe they are back on course and are going to be a factor in the Big 12.”
Henery, a junior from Omaha, went 5-for-5 on field goal attempts on the day, covering 40, 27, 19, 38 and 38 yards, extending his streak of consecutive field goals made under 50 yards to 19. The Lou Groza Award candidate also unleashed the fourth-longest punt in Nebraska history with a 76-yard bomb in the first quarter. For the game, Henery punted six times for a 41.5-yard average, including two punts inside the 20 and two touchbacks.

"He did a great job. He has been automatic and he stepped up today," Pelini said of Henery after the game. "We shouldn't have to send him out there that many times."
While Henery's leg did all the scoring for the Huskers, the legs of Roy Helu Jr. and Niles Paul covered most of the ground to set up Nebraska's scores. Helu Jr., a Doak Walker Award candidate, rushed for a career-high 169 yards on 28 carries and added a team-high four receptions for 33 yards to account for 202 all-purpose yards.
Paul set up Nebraska's first score with a 55-yard punt return to give the Huskers their first three points to cut Virginia Tech's lead to 7-3 after one quarter. NU got on the board despite having negative one yard of total offense in the opening quarter. For the game, the junior from Omaha had 86 yards on six punt returns, while adding 71 yards on kickoff returns and one reception for 19 yards to account for 176 all-purpose yards.
Virginia Tech's opening score was also set up by an outstanding special teams play, as Roberts unleashed a 76-yard kickoff return to open the game, which eventually led to Ryan Williams' one-yard touchdown plunge just 3:45 into the game. Williams finished with 107 rushing yards on the day.

Yeah, I really don't buy the, "They won 7 out of the last 8 on games that start at 3:00" type stats. Every game starts out even. Past encounters do not mean a damn at this point.

I have my money on Nebraska. I watched them against V Tech and have seen Missouri play a couple games. Nebraska is a good team this year and Mizzou is a little overrated.

so basically va tech scored a special team touchdown and a last minute or second touch downto win 17-6 , bo pelini will have all the answers needed to take control of missouri guys , the best defensive coach ever or close to it in my opinion , you give me one team that missouri has beaten half of what va tech is , look for missouri to have no answers against the defense and with a kicker like nebrascas you will get your points , bank on it

But how many times have we seen a team play up for a game against a very good team and then lay an egg the next week. Just because they played a tight game with Va. Tech doesn't mean they can't lose to Missouri. Come on folks, this defense has shut down FL. Atlantic, Louisiana La and Arkansas St. Lets not put them in an elite catagory just yet.
