Most USC fans found USC Football in the last 10 years---prior to that----they hid among the stench of Todd Marinovich.

Now the pendulum seems to have swung the other direction and knocked them senseless.

This post from the USC Wild Wild West Board is priceless.

How can you possibly get that from my post?

Did the "stench of Todd Marinovich" miss you Z?

The truth is--I spend a lot of time covering college football---and I can pretty much talk about any team.

Yesterday I had a snippet about OU and Texas---does that make me a fan? Nyet.

Same with ND. I can pretty much tell you anything you want about ND this year because I think they are going to surprise a lot of people. I have no use for them, but I think they are loaded at the skill positions, and just wait until 2010. They will have 20 starters coming back in 2010---Clausen, Tate, Floyd, Rudolph, Evans..to go with Rivals #1 RB last year Cierre Wood.

What is really going to take off for ND though is their defense. They hired Randy Hart---one of the best DL coaches in the country----and Weis made Jon Tenuta the sole play caller on defense----then add in the Te'o kid they landed, and all those friggin LBS--Steve Filer, Darius Flemming..and they have a verbal from the #1 DE in the country---Chris Martin.

And Z...ND has gone head to head with Miles over at least a half dozen recruits and they have beaten Miles....Chris Martin from Cali and Chris Badger the safety from Provo come to mind.

None of this makes me a ND fan..just someone who follows college football.

But ND really want suprise no one. A lot of people is expecting them to have a great year. I say 10-2 at worse 9-3.

USC is a bandwagon team, same down here in the south.
Once Richt came to UGA and started to create a buzz everyone jumped on the bandwagon.
Where were they in the late 80s, 90s?.....

Z..the truth is, I think Carroll is a dhead.

I really do. I can't believe how they have managed to stay out of the NCAA doghouse over Reggie Bush.

SC is bandwagon? what? you know how many friggin SC fans there are in the LA area? I actually lived there, through their crappy years in the 90s. The fans were still there, just as strong, they were just pissed off. You guys have no idea what you are talking about in terms of saying SC fans are bandwagon. The program has been around way longer than the last 10 years and has had immense success in the past, dating back to OJ in the 60s.

YOu can call SC fans a lot of things - priviledged, snotty, rich, spoiled, bratty, etc... but bandwagon is def not one of them

I am not referring to USC's base. Like any school with USC's tradition (ND, Alabama, Penn State) there will always be support.

But the fringe fan---the one I linked above---the one complaining about USC being "10-2 University" are the ones that are like Herpes. They just popped out of the woodwork with the Reggie Bush jersey.

I doubt those "USC Fans" can tell you what Mike Davis did to Notre Dame, or how Ronnie Lott played.

They only know USC from Pete Carroll. And those fans are everywhere.

Wow, I don't know a single person who fits this description. Fringe? who the hell is that?I don't know anyone like that. The only people i could think of are the vast first generation american kids who live in southern california who grew up in this modern era, whos parents dont even watch football, and so cal has tons of people who fit this description. But most of them probably went to SC or became fans. I don't think people in states other than CA have "jumped on the bandwagon".

No offense man, but I have no idea what you are saying.

You really think the Coliseum was filled to capacity in the late 90's/early 20's when USC was losing to Oregon for the 4th time in a row? and losing to TCU in the Sun Bowl?

It wasn't. If you want to call them "fans" fine---but the truth is when the program was in the crapper 10 years ago--no one cared. They didn't turn out, they just waited.

They win----then "fans" came from everywhere.

The culture is much different most every other place. Ole Miss, South Carolina, Clemson---I doubt any of those programs really believe they will win it all, but their fan support never wanes. They are rabid 365 per. In Southern California they simply wait until the program becomes a monster before they turn out. And that to me is the very definition of a bandwagon fan.

There is a reason the NFL doesn't have a LA franchise. Do you remember what happened to attendance when LA didn't have a winner? It was embarrassing.

I'm saying many new SC fans are asian (armenian, etc) and from cultures where their parents don't watch football and the kids have picked it up. So Cal has tons of people like this. I'm sure that's created an influx of "new" sc fans.

SC fans were fired up during the 90s, they just were pissed off. They still loved to see UCLA lose and wanted to beat ND. You make it sound like SC was just absolutely miserable like utah State or something. They weren't good, but they weren't THAT bad either.
