#212Hey Todays Action. I really like this Michigan play too. This team is excited after making into the top 25 after a very disappointing 2008 season. They'll be looking to destroy poor Indiana at home in the Big House. They're in great position to do well in the season and now its time to open up the conference schedule at home against Indiana!? They could cover this spread by halftime.
Having a string of 30+ straight bowl game appearances broken last season did not make Richie very popular with the fans and alum. His track record is that the teams he takes over in the second season improve greatly , how could they not after such poor first years, and/but they (even) improve from expectations of the season previous to his arrival. I don't know yet if the MI defense is "all that" or was lucky to face whom they did on the previous dates and times this season but know they are quicker than last last seasons squad. The thing for MI has always been about winning the conference title and with this Saturday being homecoming on top of it, to me, it's not hard to see why I like this one a lot. Currently, the weather for here is calling for a 60% chance of rain but here is not Ann Arbor where the forecast I saw prior to the wagers being made showed their might be scattered showers (30% chance) in the (A squared) area. If their is rain and you've already gone on MI, give some thought to buying some back at halftime because if it turns sloppy I can't see Richie Rod keeping "the good" players out there long in the second half against the likes of Indiana if/when they're up by 14-21 at half - outside of a series to get another score (hopefully touchdown). I will make it an effort to have someone post something for halftime of the game as my wife and I will be there among the 100,000+ fans. Stay tuned.Comment -

#213Thoughts on the Illinois - Penn St. matchup in October? Anybody think there is value in taking Penn St. -6.5 in two weeks vs Illinois?
Game is played @ Illinois, but I'm thinking there is almost no way that Penn wins by less than a TD. Illlinois gave up a ton of points to Illinois St already (and they are not even a D-1 school).
Side note: I wonder how much this line will change by then.
I can't endorse anyone making a wager two weeks ahead of time with a game before then. A key player or two may go down with injury, weather forecast is not as reliable as the week/day of the game. A futures number of wins ticket is different from this because it doesn't matter when they win their games for a person to cash/collect. IL will have two weeks to prepare for Ohio State - advantage IL. OSU lost at home to them in `07 by a touchdown and won by ten on the road last season - advantage OSU.
Penn State will have their hands full this Saturday evening against Iowa on the road in the evening. For whatever reason Iowa has had Joe Pa's number since `00 - only losing once.
Much of the line changes are made upon pre-released public lines, according to some, and with both teams in action this week, why are you trying to look that far ahead? If you like 6' and it opens at 7, buy it down.Comment -

#214And 3 weeks into the season, right before conference play, this is how I see the Sun Belt conference shaping up:
Sun Belt Conference
1. Florida Atlantic
2. Florida International
3. Troy
4. Middle TN State
5. Arkansas State
6. LA Lafayette
7. LA Monroe
8. North Texas
9. Western KY
Thanks for your in season forecast of the Sun Belt Conference. For it's level of play, the conference is competitive within itself. I can remember a time when it was North Texas, if memory is serving me correctly, use to "own" the league and hold their own in the post season. Times have changed.Comment -

#215I do remember that, times change indeed.
I have a fairly strong play (3 Units) on this Saturday's Florida Atlantic - UL Monroe matchup, with FAU at -3.5 (-110). I live close to FAU and have gone to every home game for the past 3 years. FAU returns QB Rusty Smith for his senior season, and you can bet that he along with the FAU team, will be out with something to prove at home. After being soundly beaten by Nebraska and South Carolina on the road, it's finally time for Sschnellenberger's Owl's to open up the Sun Belt conference schedule ad put some serious points on the board. FAU isn't terrible at all.. They were only trailing 16-17 on the road against South Carolina at halftime, a team that many expect to contend with #4 Mississippi. Also, the star wide-out of the 2007 season, Jason Harmon, is back after missing the 2008 season due to injury.
UL Monroe has lost their critical 4 year starting QB, Kinsmon Lancaster, who accounted for 2000+ passing yards last season and an additional 600 more on the ground. This, to me, seems like too big of a gap to fill... at least the following season.
The Sun Belt Conference offers many games which to me are a great money-making opportunity... I'll post some notes on this game sometime on saturday/sunday, as I will be at this game.Comment -

Thank you for adding your insight to our thread. Trust me, this helps everyone reading it. Things about this game in particular that would concern me are that the visiting team has won all 5 games by a 3 points per per game average. From a gambling perspective, that tells me the teams have been relatively even/equal in talent over that span and if I knew nothing else about those teams I'd be inclined to take visitor and the points. You are 100% correct about Lancaster being gone but did you know the Warhawks have 17 returning starters from last season including 4 of the 5 offensive linemen for returning RB starter Goodin to rush behind. On the defensive side they only lost two starters from last years squad (a LB and their HAWK (rover)). FAU on the other hand is starting 3 new defensive linemen, and 8 overall from last year, which to me gives the advantage to the Warhawks. Offensively, The Owls have enough firepower to put points on the board especially in conference which gives them a chance. I'm hoping to record this game and watch it later in the day or early next week. There's no doubt in my mind, the game will be fun to watch and competitive. Looking forward to your SBC notes as the season rolls along.Comment -

I was a looking a week ahead just because I wanted to see what Illinois' schedule was like, and ultimately looking for games that were mismatches. I just feel like there is money to be made on this game and it jumped out at me.
This week should be fun though...Comment -

#224TA,
So you are betting on MS -4 to win 2 units, and the moneyline on the same team to win 4 units? Why are you doing this? Is this just to hedge your spread bet (i.e. to back up your spread bet)?
For the record, you will be seeing this guy ---->a LOT for a while before I get the hang of this.
Thanks for anything in advance, TA!Comment -

. I can still profit, long as MS wins the game if they don't cover. If MS covers and wins, I'd end up plus six units. If MS does not cover but wins, I'd be up two units. If they don't cover and lose, I'll be down for the night. Sorry this wasn't posted sooner.

#229It's amazing how good we as cappers get AFTER the game(s) are over - let it go, you won nothing but more importantly you lost nothing. There are literally 100's of games, let alone options off each one, to pick and choose from - find some you like, give it a whirl.
Thank you and you should realize for me to post it, let alone early, tells you how highly I think of it; but it still could lose.Comment -

#230Yea, Saw the Fresno St game last week. QB took a pretty brutal beating, especially late. Also, heard it said. Fresno St will travel 32K total miles this season."Any team, Any time" looks pretty foolish when you think of it in terms of the grind that program is putting those kids through. Still, I'm thinking 10 pts would put it at +27 & get Ga under 3. Or may just buy the 2.5 & be done with it. Gonna wait overnight.Comment -
