Will Tennessee Finally Fire Butch Jones
Last week I posted that in the Florida-Tennessee game, you had a team with a head case offense playing against a team with a head case Head Coach. Once again, the Head Case Head Coach, Butch Jones, found a way to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory. In what had to be the dumbest defense seen yesterday, Jones Vols allow a Florida WR to get behind the defense and catch a 60+ yard pass for a TD. There were 10 seconds left in the game when the play started. That was just part of the stupidity that Jones demonstrated yesterday.

He could not settle of a FG kicker. He consistently called very bad offensive plays when Tennessee was in the red zone. The team has to be tired of his ranting and raving act on the sideline. Are there any Tennessee fans out there? If so, please try to explain to me why Jonesis still coaching at Tennessee.

Big Daddy, aren't teams like tennessee, nebraska or maybe even Texas A&M such that if they fired their current coach they'd just spend 3 years of a new coach to basically just get back to current level or maybe even less? i.e. these could turn into carousel teams perpetually chasing 7 or 8 wins....

in fact, in some ways i think he's really brought tennessee up...

i do think that alot of these teams should have HC as recruiter, admin, university liason, community liason etc. and then full-time dedicated OC's and DC's to run everything to have to do with their units i.e. scheming, practice, play call etc......... basically HC as combo chairman/CEO if you think corporate and OC/DC more president, COO etc. head coach wouldn't dip down to that level.

It won't be easy to do. Tennessee is an unattractive job for any established HC because their fan base is notorious for being ridiculous and unreasonable. You'd need to rip an upstart coordinator from an already existing team, or just go with a promotion to a guy who's probably not going to be kept next year. In that case, just keep Jones and see what happens.

i agree......... i think there's two parts: 1) off-field energy of program; 2) on-field game day. Big Daddy is likely right that there's a problem with #2 but i would think that can be fixed with assistant coaches which is simple.

BTW, how many players in NFL from the state of tennessee? i'm thinking it's fairly high but not very high.

No shame in losing to UF in the swamp. Not Butch's fault his kicker couldnt kick it through the upright.

It goes way beyond just that though.

Like I've been saying for the last 10 years. Tennessee had a rare couple of decades in the 90s and early 2000s. We aren't getting back to those times here soon. I have no problem with Butch and we are a long way away from 20 years ago. If we fire him who are we bringing in that's so much better? We put the program back another three years if we fire him. People need to relax.

People are still mad at Kiffin. He is the only coach we've had that had Saban on the ropes and we should've won that game lol. I had no problem with him bailing for his dream job.

Just how much time do you give this clown. He has NEVER lost less than 4 games at Tennessee. Coaches that have attitude problems, like he does, never succeed. He thinks he is the know all and end all and he is far from that. If you keep him, you are signaling to every decent recruit out there that Tennessee is satisfied with 8-9 win seasons and constantly losing to Alabama and Florida.

Georgia is ahead of Ohio for FBS scholarships. And in the latest NFL draft, Georgia was number one overall for draft picks -- ahead of the big three.
