Week 1 - any help appreciated
    Hi all

I have been an NFL fan on and off but have decided to look deep at the college football this year. after a few days of solid study I have a shortlist of 6 selections that i think look good value. I dont have a great deal of knowledge so any feedback either way would be great! TIA.

North Illinois v Boston Col - UNDER 46 points - game looks like it wil be dominated by 2 good defences

Ball State v Illinois - Ball State +8 - Seem to have a solid run game where Illinois' weakness appears to be their rush D

NC state V South Carolina - NC State -6 - excellent in D, bringing back solid experienced team

AS State v Georgia - Appalachian State +14 - getting better, dominant in the Sun Belt, plenty of experience with good run game.

Texas A&M v UCLA - Texas +3 - Huge game for both sides, UCLA still appear to have too many issues

Georgia Tech v Tennesee - Georgia Tech +4 - Plenty of potential in offence

All these are obviously brief summarys, any help appreciated! thank you

I'm not an over under guy, but I agree NIU and BC will have trouble scoring. Illinois has sucked for a while, not sure what Lovie is doing there but they seem to play well at home early on in seasons past. I like the Wolfpack and may add them. Best of luck!

Northern Illinois v boston coll/cant help out here interesting to see others on why and how they come up with plays ,but very intriguing

Ball state v Illinois /I have Illinois winning by only -5 so +8 could be the correct bet ,with only a 10 rank difference in the two teams but I would want more value/points leaning my way to fire

Nc state v south Carolina/love it I have nc st winning by -13 so -6 is a great# that's 7 points of value

Appalachian state v Georgia/this game is right within certain parameters and only a very little 17 rank difference in the two team I have Georgia winning by -4 so hell yes I like taking the +14

Texas am v ucla/ a@m is 33 ranks better they win outright here love it +3

Georgia tech v tennesee/very close game here i don't have opinion here
may the Schwartz be with you and remember take what you can give nothing back

Kirby Smart is a defensive genius, the talent lvl at app st doesn't come close to the talent lvl at georgia and with georgia returning 2 of the top 20 running backs in the country I wouldn't touch the game.

Everyone is on NcSt which usually makes me nervous, also they just suspended 5 players today or yesterday. Muschamp always puts out a def that plays higher than their talent lvl and SC offense is supposedly much improved this year.

Boston College always plays amazing def and Northern illinois seems to be trending down, I like the under.

A&M is also trending down, I love UCLA -3 although I can only find it at -3.5.

I Like Ball St. and the points. They have a great chance to win it outright. Illinois has a losing record against MAC teams in the past few years. Lower level Big 10 teams this year are horrible. GL

I would not touch NC State-South Carolina. That is a pick game yet NC State is giving away a lot of points. One thing is for sure. With both teams returning most of their offensive firepower from last season, we should see a lot of points scored. If I wager on the game at all, I will take the over in this game, though I have no idea where you came up with 46. It is 48 1/2 all over Vegas.

Agree BigD. The Gamecocks get back MLB Skia he is a beast other then that they have nothing. The only thing with the Over is Defenses are usually ahead of the Offenses early in the season. I am leaning towards NCst. Won't be on this one. The Cocks have a young talented group on the O side. Should be some scoring. GL

Thinking simply can be a good thing in CFB, as long as it's not too simply. Hard to tell, since like you said, you were summarizing.

I'm not on any of these games, but I can say this...

                  - I do lean NCSt, I like that one. South Carolina appears to be hyped up on SEC bias and mysticism. Not sure why people like them so much, even though their QB is legit.

                  - Not sure why you think NoIll's D is any good. They've done little to make anyone think that. Every single game they played last year sailed over 46 points. About half of BC's went over 46. Be careful here.

                  - TAMU and UCLA are two can't-get-right teams facing one another. It's a no-bet of epic proportions for me. Too unpredictable.

I dont think they have a losing record vs MAC teams and non-power 5 teams in general over the last few seasons.........They generally play those teams well.......They did lose to W.Mich last season but they were a Top 15 ranked team in the country and not a typical MAC team...

Betting on that Ball ST defense seems very risky........An argument can be made that they were the worst defense in the FBS last season....They ranked 120th in the nation in YDS allowed, and that is horrible considering their weak schedule.....They only played 3 strong offenses the entire season.

I think ILL will put up 30+ points here.....They have a strong offensive line with an exciting dual threat QB in Chayce Crouch who gained some playing experience......They also return their starting RB's who played very well AVG. almost 6 YPC between the 2.......

On defense ILL has a lot of ???........But HC Lovie Smith a defensive specialist and have this unit playing up to par against the Ball ST offense.........I think ILL has the edge on both sides of the ball........I like ILL to handle their business Vs the 2nd weakest team in the MAC.

                    ILL 34
                    Ball ST 20

I do like G-Tech +4.......I have this game as a pick.

Really appreciate the replys, good to see different opinions and angles. Just sticking to those 3 bets for week one and seeing how we go, the three games I have left appear to have too many ?? and are too close to call! good luck with all your bets guys

OP, i think i agree with all the picks although probably would NO PLAY at least one of them.

one team i'm curious about is south carolina....... not sure what's going on there but could be a big recovery program at some point.

college football is frustrating. a team like NCState is sexy, so everyone is on them and then they have a bunch of suspensions but i thought it was freshmen. so it's all confusing.. plus political correctness has got to point where they were suspended for being AT PARTY where a sexual assualt occurred.

You may be right, no way would I lay more than a td w Illini tho. The areas ball st struggles w the most Illini ain't particular strong in so think it actually a decent matchup for the dog to be able to hang around.. I have no interest whatsoever in betting it tho so gl whatever ya'll decide.
