The "effective immediately" part intrigues me. Health reasons? Scandal coming?

No scandal. I think it's more related to health.

His dad died on the field coaching at age 54. Stoops is 56.

Apparently he has the same gene worse than anyone in his family.

He isn't on the verge of dieing or anything but given that and the fact that both his sons are going to be seniors in high school playing football, he probably just wants to be with his family.

The timing does seem weird but when you peace things together the logic makes sense.

Stoops said it's a year around job and there really was never a good time to leave. He said he left at a time when the program was in great shape.

I think he is just ready to move on. It's not like he is moving. No one in Oklahoma, outside of Russel Westbrook, could afford his house.
