Boyz,
Happy to be back in action. My over-riding thought early in the season is to look for mismatches and don't be afraid to lay the heavy wood. Here are the plays that stand out to me......
VANDERBILT/WESTERN KY - OVER 62-
Tough to make a play on either side. SEC team only a small favorite at home against a non Power 5 team. Hmmmm? One thing's for certain though. The Hilltoppers can score. A no-huddle offense, plenty of returning starters, and a 6th year QB, Brandon Doughty, who might just be playing on Sundays next year. They averaged 45 ppg last year. This year should be similar. Their defense is sieve-like. Vandy is no offensive powerhouse but they should be able to put up some points in this one. OVER.
BAYLOR -36 over SMU
I know it's a lot, but lay it. The Bears can name the score, and they will. I expect them to be up 35 at half. It's a mismatch and Baylor doesn't mind playing the bully. Bad taste in their mouth from the end of last season when no team in the Big 12 was invited to the party. Blowout!
NORTHERN ILLINOIS -23 over UNLV
The Rebels are very close to the worst team in college football. The cupboard is bare. New coach, has come up from the high school ranks. He's got his hands full. The Huskies probably do not have their strongest team here but they will have no trouble running it up here. Lay it!
ARKANSAS -33 over UTEP
People forget just how good the Razorbacks were by the end of last season. Nobody wanted to play them, particularly UTEP. The Miners will be lucky to score. I see this one at about 48-3.
OHIO STATE -11- against VA TECH
The Hokies are not a powderpuff by any stretch, but Urban Meyer's boys should be able to put this one away. Big revenge situation from last season will keep the Buckeye's focused. They were only getting better by the end of last season and are rightfully ranked #1. Defensive line stud Joey Bosa will not be playing but this Ohio State team is very deep. Don't get cute here. Lay it.
Big Favorites, I know. But that always seems to work in the very early parts of the season.
As always, best of luck.
