Won't say Death Valley since the other game is much more important, but going into Memorial Stadium at night is no easy feat for any team.
I'm torn here. I want to think we have a chance to win and I do believe so. We're getting back two starters on the OL. Both H-backs are back, basically the slot receivers. But, we are losing a NT, then our 2nd CB and starting RT are still out.
Clemson isn't great but their defense may shut down the true freshman QB especially with their DL and playing at home. Thankfully our NFL prospect LT Sean Hickey gets to battle Vic Beasley all game. He will need help, but the biggest threat from them is going against our strongest on the line.
Huge fan of AJ Long, I've been watching him since he was in HS and I'm glad he's getting experience this year. He has all the confidence in the world but that can go right out the window when you go into Death Valley with that crowd on a Saturday night at 7 PM.
Syracuse returns two of their top play makers in Broyld and Estime. Estime probably being the fastest and best on the team at this point when it comes to versatility, speed, play making ability but he is coming back from injury and hasn't played in a month. There's a lot I could say about this game and I seem to be doing that anyway.
I was wrong last week thinking we would lose to Wake Forest. But, we scored 14 on defense and got 16 on offense. Syracuse still can't score when they get inside the 20 or 10. One touchdown and 3 FG's against Wake freakin' Forest.
Cuse has Estime and Erv Philips who have speed, but still will have trouble with the speed of the Clemson D. PTG and Adonis at RB, along with DM and GMII will do their thing as long as the play calling doesn't completely suck. Lester gets his 3rd game at OC and I believe he will do fine and keep improving. Plenty of depth at the skill positions this week.
I know most aren't even looking at this game, just trying to give some insight and talk it out with myself mostly. I would love to hear from someone who has watched Clemson more than me.
Steve Ishmael is a Florida kid at WR, another true freshman beast and did well against FSU. Ishmael, Estime, and Broyld with the running game can put up a fight against that Clemson D. It's a down year for Clemson, compared to the past couple. They aren't some perennial powerhouse and Dabo isn't too great IMO.
As for the Clemson offense, they're stuck with Cole Stoudt at QB. The type that Syracuse loves to face, a pocket passer. No Golston or Winston that they have to worry about breaking containment. Cuse has lost 4 games, all to mobile QB's. Barely beat Nova with their dual-threat QB but CMU and Wake were easy since it was against pocket passers. Adam Choice is out at RB for Clemson along with their top TE Leggett. They have talent at WR but no Watkins, Hopkins, Martavius type players from the past.
Clemson most likely wins because of their defense, but 14.5/15 points seems like too much to me. Turnovers may lead to easy points though which will cover that spread but I'm gonna take a shot with the points and even ML. I think this may be the surprise win Syracuse has needed. They stuck with ND and FSU, it's time to win one.
Good luck today.
