#37Bowl Changes for 2014-2015. Everyone knows about the new system to select the 4 teams to play for the NC, but there are more changes, none of them good, IMO. First, we go from 35 Bowl Games to 39. If that is not bad enough, there is now a way for 5-7 teams to become bowl eligable. 5-7 teams that have a top-5 Academic Progress Rate (APR) score. If no 5-7 team finishes in the top-5 APR, then teams can be chosen in order of their APR. So this means we can see two 5-7 teams in the "Who gives a S**t Bowl" played in Hicksville Texas. The good news is that there may be as many as 30 out of theses 39 bowl games that have at least one "Power 5" Conference tie-in. The "Power 5" Conferences are the ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac 12, and SEC. Currently 21 of these bowl games have two Power 5 teams playing, and 5 have one Power 5 team involved.Comment -

#39Florida State will lose two offensive starters to the NFL in the draft. RB Devonta Freeman and WR Kelvin Banjamin are going to the NFL. This really means little to Florida State. The defense is the side that gets hit, losing 6 starters. If Florida State has a concern, it is on the defensive side of the ball.
Texas starting RT Josh Cochran has decided to retire from football due to a recurring shoulder injury. That makes 4 out of 5 starters on the OL from a year ago either retiring or graduating. The QB situation is still up for grabs. Texas also loses 5 starters from their defense. Charlie has his work cut out for him.Comment -

#40Alabama continues to lose players on the defensive side of the ball. the latest to test the NFL waters is SS Vinnie Sunseri. That makes 8 starters on defense who will NOT be back next season. Add tyhat to the loss of QB McCarron 3 other starters, and 5 backups, and Alabama has a major rebuilding job next season. Add all of that to a very soft schedule next serason and Alabama may have to run the table to get into the Final Four. Even as SEC Champs, I do not know if a 1 loss team with that kind of SOS will make it or not.Comment -

#41Arizona now loses it's entire starting backfield of 2013 with the defection of RB Ka'Deem Carey to the NFL. RichRod now muct replace this starting RB, along with his starting HB (Terrance Miller) and his startinng QB (B.J. Denker). That will not be easy. He will have 4 games in Spetember to get them ready for a game at Oregon on 10/2 and at home against USC on 10/11.
Stanford's LG David Yankey has also opted for the Pro route. He joins RG Kevin Danser, C Khaul Wilkes, RB's Anthony Wilkerson and Tyler Gaffney, and FB Ryan Hewitt as starters lost to the Stanford offense. Stanford HC Shaw is going to be forced to open up his conervative offense and must depend on hot and cold QB Kevin Hogan to lead the offense now. Stanford hosts USC in their second game, and travel to Washington on 9/27 and to Notre Dame on 10/4. It could be a rather early season for the Tree.Comment
