SMU lost a lot from their defense, but given the pace SMU plays at and the fact that Tech is starting a brand new QB, this one should probably finish in the 40s.

What do you mean the pace SMU plays? They average 73.1 plays a game. This is just out of the top 50 fastest teams. I lean over. This total is low for Tech or SMU. I think this one gets in the 60's. Just my opinion.

What do I mean by "the pace they play"? I mean the pace THEY play, which is the slowest in the country. You're attributing their opponents' pace to them.

Slowest in the country? From what stat are you taking this? I doubt they are the slowest in the country. 9 of their 13 games last year were played in the 50's or higher. They are playing a super fast Tech team who is playing faster this year than last. If you think this ends in the 40's you have a great bet since I see the line in Vegas sitting at 59.

Can't play over total that high if the true freshman is starting at QB as is being reported. SMU should be over gold moving forward into conf play, but would stay away from this one.

Need to look deeper but was kinda thinking over the total. My hope there will be plenty of passing, incompletions will stop the clock and give both teams lots of time to score.

I agree with you carolina. Tech is going to play faster, yes they will be splitting time with 2 Frosh QB's but Kingsbury is real high on both of them. I think Tech can get 35-40 pts in this one.

SMU's offense played at the slowest pace in the country last year. (Auburn was the second-slowest.) SMU's opponents included teams like Houston, which actually played a game in which 209 plays were run.

Tech will undoubtedly push the pace, and Tech might score 35-40 points, but how is SMU going to score?

I like the over, many believe smu offense can score a ton of points on just about anyone, especially against the usually pretty bad tech defense at home

Tech also won't have any problems score on smu, should easily ghetto the 60s

Both teams have no defense and Techs offense will be light speed. Lets not forget Kliff Kingsbury (Texas Techs head coach) was Johnny Manziels offensive coordinator. Last year A&M played SMU the second game of their season and destroyed SMU. I believe A&M scored 48 points by themselves.

Yes SMU may be slow at times but they will still score on a poor Tech defense.

I know its the first game of the season for both, but look for lots of points to be scored. Like I said, both team have weak defenses.

SMU's QB is terrible, and they lost their bruising tailback. Tech will be playing two QBs that have never taken a college snap. And Tech actually had a really strong pass D last year. Remember what they did to Geno Smith in last year's biggest public bloodbath? Tech lost three starters from the secondary, so the pass D may regress this year, but it sounds like some of you don't know much about these teams.

This total has been drifting down from it's opening 63 number. A pass. Too many intangables here.
